That feel like they make a difference in this heteronormal society of ours.

Last night at work (bar/restaurant) a plate was about to go out from the kitchen. The arrangement of the food looked slightly phallic, so the chef commented & we all had a little laugh. One of the managers asked "would it be wrong if I liked it?" and my instant response was, "no." He looked at me w/ a bit of a perplexed smile and said something to the effect of "of course it would be wrong." I didn't react to him whatsoever, save for what must have just been a straight face - which I think made him realize my answer was serious. Pretty sure no one there realizes I'm gay. Not sure if he may have clued into that possibility last night, or if maybe he thinks I'm simply an lgbt ally or something and don't particularly care for homophobic comments. Mind you, I really couldn't care less what others think & don't raise a fuss at all when people tell gay jokes etc. It very rarely irks me at all unless they're truly coming from a hateful position on the topic.

Annnnyways, I must say.. I felt a little pleased with myself for speaking my mind with that simple "no," last night and just wanted to share. :) It's the compound effect of all of those sorts of little moments that will eventually make being gay just as normal as being straight or bi or any other orientation, IMO, so they're worth having. Most of my life I'd have bit my tongue and not breathed a word in contest to someone's statement like that.. but not anymore. It's high time I, and society really, grow up and just be comfortable about it all. I suppose I'm sharing this little seemingly insignificant story to encourage others to do the same in their lives amongst their peers, too. IMO, it's better.. "it gets better," after all, and this is a part of how.
