Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a special letter I wrote to one of my biggest LGBT inspirations. It was to openly gay rock/country sensation Steve Grand. I saw him perform at PrideFest in Pittsburgh about three weeks ago, and I had the opportunity to meet him after the show. I did not expect a response from him, but he did write one about three days after the show.

I posted the link below and I also posted his reply.

My reply from Steve Grand

"Derek Warren, I just read this letter, and I am so moved by your words! First of all, I think I speak for most of us here when I say I wish I could write like you do!
Reading about your life and the struggles you have faced, and continue to face, really touched me. You are a good man with an amazing, strong heart. It was very brave of you to make your feelings known, and I commend you for that.

We all struggle in different ways to varying degrees. I so admire your ability to articulate your feelings and your struggles in such an artful way. I wish you all the success in the world with your memoir and all your other endeavors!

And I have to bring up a specific line you wrote: "Although your struggles may be different, finding that right person who can love you for yourself and not the singer Steve Grand, I feel that you are with me in my journey of finding true love." I seldom, if ever, have anyone say, or write anything like that to me, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate your ability to recognize that and articulate it so perfectly. Its just one little piece, among many others, that show your insight and your incredible capacity for empathy."

That is wonderful! So many celebrities these days avoid personal contact. It is good to know about one who doesn't.

He is an independant, openly gay rock/country singer. Here is his website.

Watching him perform in Pittsburgh was truly magical. I hope I get to do it again sometime soon!
