I know it's delicate subject: but why so many gay people oppose sex orientation change. Why so many governments try ban orientation change.


Why prohibits an adult to decide about their own sexual orientation, I am, unfortunately, bisexual, actually, I do not know if I'm bisexual or gay, anyway, I would like to get rid of my sexual attraction to men because I think it's something unnatural and i ashamed of it . I'm sorry if I offended someone's feelings.

Governments taking action against homosexuals do it for reasons that it conflicts with the religious beliefs that they are promoting in their countries. Individual politicians do it for bigotry reasons. In Russia Putin is promoting Nationalism and aligning his government with the Russian Orthodox Church which believes that homosexuality is a sin.

Sorry, you mean therapy that will rid yourself of your bisexual tendencies. I wasn't aware that there were therapies designed to change your sexual orientation. I would have thought that your sexuality is part of your DNA and can't be changed through therapy. Perhaps that is the reason you can't find a doctor that will help you. I think you need to deal with your sexuality in your own way. Can you suppress your feelings towards other males and lead a happy life as a heterosexual male? That is the question you have to ask yourself.

Another point I find worthwhile is that sexuality as a whole consumes time that can be spent working for the good of society, others' health or the health of the planet. Though I'm only physically attracted to women, I feel love towards all humans and my ethics dictate that I should put my mind to work acquiring valuable knowledge I can pass along and/or showing my appreciation of human nature indirectly through nature at large.

There do exist "therapies" which are supposed to change your sexual orientation. However, they are all scams. At best they are just a waste of money. At worst they are abusive and can have lasting mental impacts. I don't know of any government that has banned them outright, but California has banned them for people under 18. The reason is that, because they don't work and can have negative impacts, a parent should not be allowed to force a child to attend such a program. If, once someone has reached the age of majority, they wish to go then they are still allowed to.

As for getting rid of your own homosexual desires--I'm afraid you won't be able to. You can try to ignore them and obviously you don't have to act on them, but they'll still be there. It would be better for your mental health if you can come to accept them, whether you ever decide to act on them or not. I'm sure that there are therapists that can help you with this. I know that Poland is not exactly the most gay-friendly place, which makes all of this harder. If you ever do get to the point where you'd feel comfortable acting on your bisexuality then maybe you'd want to move to a more accepting country. But obviously that would be a big and difficult decision for you and it is several steps down the road. For now just work on not feeling ashamed about your bisexual desires.

I'm glad I don't live in Russia.

I think people are rightly wary of being told what they are supposed to think and feel. It seems like "re-education camp," where you learn to say you have the correct thoughts and feelings or you get electroshocked. I think there's a well placed sense of horror at having to always watch what you say, let alone what you do, or have horrible consequences befall you.

All the anti-gay therapies have been shown not to work, which puts people in the position of constantly "failing," or learning to lie to themselves or others on a continual basis. It doesn't seem a healthy way to live.

And, the people who want such re-education don't seem to care at all about the fundamental humanity of those they'd apply it do, despite what they say. I.e. what happened to Alan Turing. How could that Frankensteinian procedure, that resulted in his suicide, be considered good for him? I think people have an instinctive sense that when people are talking such stuff they're not seeing them as actual human beings.

I think an environment that teaches you to feel ashamed of your sexuality, which cannot be changed, only does damage to your mental health. Such an environment is what needs to be changed. I'm glad that I don't live in such a bigoted, judgmental and homophobic environment.

I'm not aware of any government that prohibits a person's attempt to change his/her sexuality. Which country does that?
