Here I discuss the problem with the low supply of surgeons in the U.S. and how expanding to nationwide coverage is not feasible while the supply of surgeons is low.

Well, it might just mean that there are longer wait-times. Which is what you get in every other industrialized country if the surgery isn't needed to save your life. Of course, ultimately what is needed (not only in the US, but also in Canada and I suspect elsewhere) is more doctors so that the wait time is shorter and so that supply and demand will help lower the cost of treatment.

Perhaps we need to work harder on autodocs? I'm being serious here. Doctors takee seven years to train, and then more to specialise.
