OH-kay..... I won't argue with her opinion but how long has she been an expert on human biology?

She's welcome to her opinion.

To me, it sounds like saying "Men are superior," or "Women are superior," or "[fill in the blank demographic] is superior."

More discriminatory BS. Every group is superior to every other group at something, and inferior at something else.

When are we going to get smart enough to just let people be people????

..except she does back up her statement with some interesting biological facts. I haven't researched any of that, so I can't confirm they are indeed facts, but if they are.. it's certainly interesting.

What you see depends on where you stand.

There have been many many studies done, using MRI, post-mortem studies on undiseased brains, and other imaging techniques for many many years. Meta-analysis has been performed on these studies and in the results there is no evidence from these, whatsoever, for Lisa Kudrow's idea, so far as I know.

Meta analysis has comprehensively established two things:

1 the overall size of the brain is larger in men than women; and
2 the thickness of the corpus callosum which relays information between the right and left side of the brain is larger in women than men.

If Lisa Kudrow has some solid, well-designed scientifically robust research which has been peer reviewed, then the physiological scientists who specialise in this are will no doubt be interested to learn of it, and so will the scientific magazine Nature and me. I doubt that there is any basis for her claim other than her confusion and misunderstanding of this area of science.

Lisa Kudrow is not speaking as a scientist. She did mention her having studied biology and means what she said from a scientific point of view but I think she still means it to be just her opinion/theory, which she knows she can't prove. If you need concrete scientific evidence for everything you say, you can hardly say anything.

I do actually feel kind of superior being gay although I'm well aware that sexuality doesn't make anyone superior or inferior. It's just an irrational (positive) feeling. Someone said that many gay men are superior because they are forced by society to know the perspectives of straight men in addition to those of gay men. When I see straight men saying sex jokes about women, I feel superior. When I hear about how a straight man ended up having problems with some nasty woman, I also feel superior. But I know gay men and women are not actually superior or inferior.

That's a really good point.

Presumably if she'd said the converse--that straight men were intellectually superior, everyone would write her off as a bigot and her career would essentially be over. Suffice to say I think it's a fairly prejudiced opinion she has. I don't think it's "heterophobia" so much as it is sexism though.

But then again, what would I know. I'm one of those inferior bisexual men.
