someone said to you like this:
"I love you (not in a romantic way) but I hate your sin"

How do you feel?

How do I feel? it's like telling me that I'm an a**hole when I'm doing something "gay" and you "love" me according to the rules, not wholeheartedly!

I haven't had anyone say that to me.

But I'd think a couple of things:

This person is brainwashed by religious indoctrination & dogma.

This person is using their religion as an excuse to justify bigoted hatred of others - making them the sinner, according to their own rules.

Or, they actually *do* love you, but see your sexuality in the same way as they'd see someones alcoholism - a damaging part of you that you need to resist.

I've never heard anyone tell me that personally, but then again, I kind of make most of my time in LGBT-affirming churches.

It's a back-handed compliment, for sure...however, I have to admit that it sounds just slightly better than "I hate you because I hate your sin".

If someone sees being gay is a "damaging part of you that you need to resist", then I feel that's someone you no longer need involved in your life.
