Oh. A has-been athlete. No wonder I didn't know who he was.

This is a non-event.

Agreed.

As of what I've heard, it's mainly rumors at this point and Bruce hasn't made any statements. We should wait until he says something, then call him Bridget or use she/her. If we assume, then we're not respecting him or his gender.

If he is trans, lovely. I hope the media treats him well and aren't transmisogynists.

If not, lovely. I hope the media treats him well, learns from the fiasco, and stops using trans-ness as tabloid bait, but alas that's not going to happen.

Saying that Bruce Jenner transitioning is a non-event is just ignorant. Just because your too young to know who he is doesn't detract from his relevance.

Beneficci, I am deeply sorry you are having so much trouble getting the help you need for your personal transition. That said, constantly finding fault with anyone undergoing transition that seems to be having an easier time than yourself is just self defeating. Try to be happy that someone so high profile is going to bring to light the many problems people in transition face.

Me, if Bruce Jenner is indeed transitioning, I believe that would just increase the perception that transition-related care should just be for the rich and the famous, making it harder to set up equal access through, say, requiring insurance policies to cover it. It would also increase the perception that it's just a vanity--Bruce Jenner has certainly been famous for being quite vain--and not actual important life-changing treatment.

It does not help the trans community at all.

lol, he hasn't even admitted to it yet. Yet you already know what the outcome will be, vanity for the rich and negative implications for everyone who is not rich. Must be nice to be able to see the future, could I trouble you for this weeks Lotto numbers?

The effect is already there. It's not like the average reader waits for such confirmation; otherwise, there wouldn't be so many gosh darn articles on "Bruce Jenner's sex change," because they wouldn't draw any revenue.
