Is awesome. :D

There's hardly a shift that goes by w/o some hilarious gay joke/comment made either by myself or coworkers & it's faaaaaaantastic. Seriously. So much more fun than keeping it to myself. Especially since I work with a LOT of funny people. (At a restaurant/bar.) I don't think I've ever worked anywhere where I've laughed so much on a regular basis. And yes, I can certainly tell the difference between joking & laughing with me vs. at me. It's truly all in good fun and positive vibes.

Anyways, just thought I'd share. If you're working around the kind of people that you think would be cool w/ your sexual orientation and aren't out about it, maaaaybe consider it - it's been a whole lot of fun & so far so good for me.

I realize that isn't always the case lol remember the thread I made last year about having to defend myself at the Human Rights Tribunal against an ex-coworker that tried to have me fired for being gay? So, yeah, I get that some people aren't so cool about it. But if you're in an environment where it's perfectly fine, man o man is it ever a lot of fun & lolz vs. keeping silent about it.

I made the decision a long time ago to just be out everywhere. No revolving-door closet for me.

Depends on the people. I have been out at work before but that was a short stint in a gay-friendly bar anyway. Where I work now I wouldn't want them to know tbh, far too ignorant and gossipy. I think places like bars/restaurants/cafes tend to attract more open-minded people.

Definitely agree with this.

The place where I had issues was while I was doing some ironwork on a construction site.. however, the issues were only with one homophobe - everyone else, even those that were tough as nails, were completely cool with it and didn't care one iota. In part I think it's because most of them were their own brand of misfit, and in part because they're all just human, too.

The place I work at is not a gay bar nor is it in the gay district, but it does tend to attract a LOT of gay guys - mostly older and not my type at all, but it's definitely a gay friendly place. IMO, a huge part of the appeal of it to gay guys is that it isn't a gay bar and isn't in the gay district. I don't go to places in the gay district and neither to do a LOT of gay guys - too.. flamboyant. Anyways, I now collectively refer to the many gay guys that come in during the day on the weekends as "The Brunch Mafia"

Aside: I've spoken to a couple of the owners (there are several) about doing an event during Pride week this Summer - something classier, no glitter and rainbows and all that bs. A nice dinner or cocktail mixer, or both, ideally as a fundraiser for a local youth homeless shelter where 40% of the kids (16-24) are homeless because they've been kicked out of their family homes for being LGBT kids. So far they're on board for doing some sort of event where the only rainbows might be rainbow trout, but I'm not sure yet about doing it as a fundraiser.. I'll be pushing for that, anyways. Time will tell.

But yeah, definitely a GREAT group of coworkers to be out around that's for sure! 8)
