It's a cute poem, and it does capture that feeling. I like how he addresses the positive reactions at least in the beginning. There are people like that, although sometimes those types can accidentally hurt sometimes too.
I'm a little bothered by the "in 2018" bit... because that's what homophobia felt like before too. I mean, it's not really time specific. The only difference, if there is any, is that it's a little less scary to be out now than it was 5, 10, 20 years ago.
I am glad he kissed his boyfriend at the end of the poem
