The Revival Baptist Church in Clermont, Florida is due to hold a three-day "Make America Straight Again" conference from June 14-16 at an unknown location, just two days after the three-year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, which left 49 people dead in 2016.

In a statement, the Lake County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they refused a request from the church for their deputies to be deployed at the conference for protection.

"First, it appears as though the organization disparages homosexuals and will be targeting them during the group's conference this week", a spokesperson added.

"Furthermore, the fact that the timing of this conference coincides with the three-year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in nearby Orlando did not go unnoticed by our staff. We felt as though the timing of the conference is in poor taste and we chose not to allow the group to hire our deputies."

Im glad not all cops are bad cops. I've actually had pretty positive experiences with Florida cops whenever I was taken to a crisis center

It’s important to keep in mind that progress is the overall trend and that there’s always going to be reactionary movements against progress (no matter what area the progress is in - whether it’s gay rights, women’s rights, civil rights, etc.).

We’re headed in the right direction. It’s good that specific individuals stand out for their bigotry. It’s a sign that it doesn’t reflect our society’s current values as a whole.

Maybe you're right. This is a story that reminds me that there is still some hope. I'm really glad this sheriff has taken his job seriously to protect the public. Especially with the bad reputation cops are given in the media. :)
