It’s a yes-or-no question.

No, if you're against equality you're by definition not an ally.

Can someone be an ally of Catholics but also oppose the practice of Catholicism?

If someone thinks Catholicism is unbiblical, of course, he will oppose the practice, but that doesn’t mean he’s against the people who practice it. There’s a difference between hating the believers and the belief.

He might not hate Catholics, but he's still hostile to their rights if he desires for them to not be able to practice their faith.

Broadly speaking, if one is opposed to another person's rights or would prefer for those rights to be denied one can't honestly claim to be an ally of those people.

I gave you my answer, and you don’t like it, so you’re going to start arguing with me - not going down the rabbit hole.

Also, it was a yes-or-no question, meaning that I would like a final “yes” or “no” answer, nothing more.

I gave a no and explained my reasoning, nothing more.

No, someone who seeks to deny your rights or treat you as inherently lesser to them is not an ally.

What goal did you have in mind with this thread? My thoughts: this specific forum is mostly about support and discussion for LGBT members. Being against homosexual marriage and gay sex is homophobic and would be inappropriate for this forum. If folks are denied the same rights as others due to race, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc., that’s bigotry in action. It would be like people posting in Women’s Discussion that it would be okay for women to not have the same rights that men do. I don’t think a thread there titled “Can a man be an ally but be against women voting and equal pay?” would go over very well and certainly not if anyone posted “yes.”

This isn’t about politics or philosophical outlooks; it’s about human rights.

Paraphrased: Can you be supportive of gay people and gay rights awhile also opposing their fundamental rights?
