Just to let you know that if your a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person reading this that you are loved by God. Never think that your sexual orientation is dirty or a sin. It's a part of your identity, God doesn't make mistakes. You are perfect just the way you are! :D

If by God you mean the Christian God, you know it originated from the Bible. The Bible is pretty clear where it stands on that issue.

Just saying.

Be aware that the bible was written by people. It was not handed down from 'on high' complete, it has been altered at times to suit political agendas throughout it's existence.

Although, about the bible itself I've read that there are enough places that say homosexuality is a-ok and that the only reason that people say otherwise is because the bits that say it's not outnumber the ones that say it is. Apparently there are many conflicting things said in the bible, enough for people to pick and choose what they think God says. I haven't read the bible in depth since I was little and when I find something conflicting I don't retain it very well except for remembering it conflicted.

Yes indeed. "That" verse, the one used as a club to beat us with, is likely badly translated anyway.
And what about these - why do we never hear about them?

Exodus 21:7 Sanctions the selling of a daughter into slavery.
Exodus 35:2 States that those who work on the Sabbath should be put to death.
Lev 11:6-8 Touching a dead hare or pig makes that person unclean.
Lev 11:10 Eating shellfish is an abomination (it's unclear if this is a greater or lesser abomination than homosexuality)
Lev 15:19-24 Contact with a menstruating woman is forbidden.
Lev 19:19 Forbids the planting of two different crops in the same field, and the wearing of clothes made from different threads.
Lev 19:27 Forbids men from trimming certain hair on the head.
Lev 20 Forbids those with a sight defect from approaching an altar.
Lev 20:14 Those who sleep with their in-laws must be burned. Both of them.
Lev 24:10-16 Those who blaspheme the name of the lord must be stoned to death.
Lev 25:44 It's Ok to own slaves, provided they're purchased from neighbouring nations.

Source? The Bible.

If people are going to bang on about the so-called word of God they really ought to be consistent about it and not cherry-pick whatever suits their particular agenda.
Otherwise they'll have to be stoned to death.

The conventional answer is that they ain't part of the New Covenant.

I've always loved that sacrificing pigeons on the horns of the altar s**t. :)

Yeah, more cherry-picking of "the best bits".
I must have missed that sign from God, indicating which bits of "his" words it's now Ok to ignore.

Stone them I say; stone them!

All very well that I'm being told that God loves me, but seeing as I'm and atheist this was hardly something bothering me.

I, for one, sincerely appreciate the well-wishes put forward by the OP.

Do what thou wilt, sweet christian.

I appreciate the sentiment too. I guess, for what it's worth, even though I don't agree with many tenants in the religion, it's better that somebody in that faith tries to give a message of love, rather than condemnation.

Your premise is based on the implied assumptions that (1) God exists, and (2) you know what God is thinking.

Does anyone believe that God is a Catholic?

That's kinda what I think when I see people say things like the OP did.

If you call a divine being "God," you probably refer to the Christian God, and not mean it in a generic sense. This God originated in the Torah, which in turn was incorporated into the Bible. If you believe in this God, it stands to reason you believe in the scriptures. If you don't believe in the scriptures, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to assert there's a Christian God, but whatever. According to the Bible, when it comes to homosexuality... you know the rest. I mean, let's not look the other way to be nice, it does say that.

But the Brian Griffin member had a good point too. A lot of scripture is just not practiced anyway, so I'm not surprised a lot of Christians have these gray areas. It would make more sense to find a belief system you agree with.

I'm straight but the general attitude from the church regarding homosexuality was a big help to me when I couldn't quite make up my mind about religion when I was younger.

It was clearly illogical to me, and helped me decide not to bother with organised religion.
