WrongPlanet.net is going to being creating an official Asperger's Syndrome comic book. Right now the details are going to be secret to prevent people from stealing other people's ideas during the competition, but I'll tell you that the protaganist has asperger's syndrome. The details of the strip will be opened up once the competition has ended and a winner has been selected to become the WrongPlanet.net comic book artist.

For the competition I'd like to have you draw two versions of the same character. This character will be aspieish looking, geeky looking, and probably thinnish (but not too thin). The first drawing of this character will be a drawing of what he looks like when he isn't in disguise. He should be geeky, with glasses and maybe a pocket protector or maybe just a tshirt that he bought at thinkgeek.com or some other place nerds shop. People will probably tease him at school or something because he has trouble getting along with people. He shouldn't be tooo hideously geeky, however. We want to make it realistic for girls to be really strongly attracted to him when he's disgiused.

The second drawing will be what he looks like for his secret identity. He should look like he's the same person but instead of looking geeky, he should look handsome and muscular, i guess. The color scheme for his outfit should be blue and green like the wrongplanet colors. You may want to submit a traditional superhero who has a cape, or be creative and make this asperger's character have a new style of super hero attire. Maybe he'd even wear a blue and green tuxedo or something! Who knows? (maybe try submitting multiple drawings with different outfits!) The sky is the limit, but not for a superhero! This should really look nice and sleek, however. We don't want to be represented by someone who looks like captain underpants, or Repair Man. ;)

If everyone's entries are bad, I'll be surprised, and I will obviously be hesitant in making someone a winner. In other words, please make your drawings awesome. Please submit more than one version of both of the drawings. All versions will be considered. The moderators, developers, and site admins (who haven't entered the competition. I really want every artistic mod and admin to enter. If you don't, i'll be dissapointed.) will help decide the winner.

If you're afraid of not being chosen as a winner because you think that a moderator doesn't like you or something, feel free to talk to me. I won't tell them you did your entries and I don't hate or dislike anyone. Even if I was annoyed by people or hated them, i'd chose them if they had an awesome entry!

I will close the competition really soon so please enter soon! I really hope we can get some sweet looking drawings even by the end of today (although the competition will run for much longer than a day, early people will make me happy). Remember that you can submit something really rough now and then submit another one 2 days later (or 2 minutes later if you want) and both of the drawings will be considered.

Since this will be an ongoing comic strip, person(s) who is/are chosen to draw for the book will be given a special status (like the moderator or site admin status). Don't worry if you can't draw. We also may need writer(s) for the comic book but those people will be chosen at a later date.

The winner will get a tshirt that has the wrongplanet logo and their superhero drawings on it.

If the comic book or comic strip is ever picked up by a major organization for syndication, all proceeds will go to WrongPlanet.net which will in turn pay the artist(s) and writer(s) a salary.

(If any of you guys want to donate a prize or money to help pay for the prize for the winners, it would really help me since i'm paying for the prize currently).

Ill speak to ashlea. She draws her own manga, and she has AS, so I'm sure she'd like to help.

I'm interested in this comic. Unfortunately, I have exams at school this week, so I don't have a lot of time to draw things at least for this week. And during the week of June 6th, I will be in Florida for a few days with my dad.

How are you planning to publish and distribute this comic? Online, or in a printed form?

Could you maybe extent the deadline Alex so that people have time to get creative to their potential with it rather than rushing to get something submitted?

Just a thought as there are a lot of people on this site that I hope will submit but as TB_Samurai pointed out, life is also hectic in other areas.

I don't closely know any artists on the spectrum other than myself, so I can't plug them. I've more of the classic autism, and I have a webcomic and several projects on the slate. Here's a link...

www.biersuppe.com

will resume updating again soon...

Characters include 1 autie/anthropomorph
1 skitzo
1 high functioning down's syndrome person.

No outright politicising of what these characters are. I wanted to write them in gradually and get a prospective audience engrossed into the character's minds before I spill the beans. That way the characters are more realistic and more humanised to the readers to start with. Just a suggestion as to how you might want to go about developing a character for an audience that might include NT's as well.

Well, I am learning to draw myself now... :D

However, I don't really have the time to actually draw a comic for WP (nor the skill) but if some other artist can't design a charicter, but can draw the one I've done, they are welcome to do so

Wow I think I counted over 4 stereotypes there, and you of all people... 'Aspeish looking'? Tell me, what does a person with Aspergers typically look like? A thin 'geek'? How ignorant do you want to get?

Well, I think we could stereotype, but in the story we should mention that all Aspie's are vastly different, and all that sort of stuff.

I'd love to get the oppurtunity to draw this character, but I have a tiny lack in confidence at drawing humans. Oh well, I'll put something up eventually! I think that failing that, I'd like to be a script-writer as well, as I have a lot of day-dreaming time to come up with that sort of thing.

It'd also be a chance to pull some of my favourite superhero jokes, such as 'Why do they always have to wear tights?' and 'Underwear on the outside?' Hmm, maybe he could the the first ever superhero, and he set the formula for all the others! You'd have to be pretty unique to wear your underwear outside your pants/tights.

I'll post my concept art soon!

I know this thread is old but I thought I'de have a doodle and see what I could come up with.

They're not very good because I dont normally draw cartoon chracters and the arms are a little messed up (both the right ones..how odd), I knew I should of used pencil  ah well...anyway here are my little pictures.
