I've just created a new one! I'm very happy with the concept of it and will be posting daily!

http://bloga45.blogspot.com

There must be other people here who have them - we should all link each other :D

Man you have great taste in music! Thanks for the new adds to my library. Definitely my kind of music. That Cadets song was classic. =)

Btw, if you've got some more recommendations for artists like Fanario, I'm all ears. They are wonderful.

Ozzy - thankyou! The trouble is that it won't always be your kind of music, or anyones, because there will be every genre under the sun - I've just posted about some more noisy, 'out there' stuff, but there'll definately be more 50's rock n roll in a few days, and lots of new bands I like.

Do you mean Fanfarlo? In terms of other new bands, it's difficult, because I feel like they're more ambitious than any other band currently at their level, I don't think I could dig up anything where the songs were quite so well written. Some ideas of other new twee-ish stuff would be...

Slow Club
The Wave Pictures
My Sad Captains
Los Campesinos!
A Classic Education

I *like* all of those, but Fanfarlo are above them... closer to being like their obvious heroes the Arcade Fire.

Last.fm is a pretty good prog it just picks up what you are playing on your computer and automatically documents it on the site and links you with similar people so you can find similar stuff you might not have heard of... UNFORTUNATELY it doesnt have the verbal latice that the reviews you wove in the blog up there have which are, in an understatement, stunning at least, you hear music the way people taste wine after years. i wonder how you would describe the Dirty Projectors "the getty address" album

I really don't like the competitive aspect of Last.fm
There's another forum I go to where everyone posts their most listened to tracks once a week and the uses it as a reason to lay into each other. I don't need that. Besides, I prefer listening to music on vinyl than digitally.

About my writing - cheers! I endevour to offer some kind of insight at least. If you're London based I have a fanzine that ought still to be in Rough Trade, Selectadisc and Banquet Records.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you re - dirty projectors, I think your tastes are more experimental than mine. I'm a big pop kid really. Sorry. Still, it's nice to meet someone here who I can understand why they like stuff even if I don't agree with it?

I have a music blog
here.
I sometimes don't write about music, but most of it is about indie rock/alternative music.

I like it Sarah :) Punchy and informative.

Well I'd describe them as a fusion/nu-jazz R&B with a strong taste of cloves and some floor sweepings thrown in for good measure. Then who'd asked me?

I happen to be a devoted fan of the everything-under-the-sun genre. =P I like it all...well, some modern stuff does get a bit too "noisy" as you said, but I enjoy a very wide range of music; no prejudices here. I'm really diggin that "The beat that my heart skipped" song by dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip. I probably spelled the artist's name wrong, but just in case I didn't, I'm currently loaning myself a pat on the back.

Yep, Fanfarlo, that's the one. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll have to check those out tomorrow.

I tried to do a music blog once. It was called "The Punk Rock Librarian" or something like that. I was going to talk about music and being a librarian. I wrote one entry, but then I started to feel self-conscious about the whole thing.

I'm too perfectionistic about my knowledge of music. The thought that I might make a mistake or expose my areas of ignorance gave me so much anxiety, I couldn't deal with it. Yeah, pretty neurotic . . . .

you are brilliant. because you haven't given a verdict but it could be perceived as a compliment or a put down depending on whether the person reading it liked the band or not.

Kim... I've often worked for places where I knew my knowledge was lacking compared to the rest of the staff, in fact I still feel my ignorance now. I think the thing to do is to acknowledge it but always be seen to be pushing to learn more. If you're obviously interested and making an effort people will respect and like you.

Also, define 'mistake'??? It's certainly possible to make factual areas but you can weed those out very quickly by verifying your facts. With regard to taste, you can't make mistakes, people can tell you you're wrong but if you feel sure you're right then you are right.

The good thing about having a blog is you can choose what you write about so you can stick to what you know, too.

I totally lied about my fanzines still being in those shops, I checked back and they'd all gone. I'm pleased about it...

Oh and another thing, (for evilkimevil), I don't actually know a lot of the things I write about before I start doing any given piece, I just research while I'm writing it. A lot of journalists sound really confident about things they've only just googled ten minutes ago, some of them probably know less about music than you do!

What sort of experimental music do you like? Do you like concrete/electroacoustic/free improv? I like stuff like that also fusion/noise/bossa nova/indian classical as well as more popular stuff.

Thanks. It was also a bad wine tasting joke ;)

I noticed that lee 'scratch' perry was playing the jazz cafe recently, I think. Would have been nice to go but I couldn't. Also with the jazz cafe prices, I wouldn't go there too often.

btw a stage version of the original film The Harder They Come featuring Jimmy Cliff is on at the barbican theatre if anyone wants to come:

Might put it in the meet up thread.
