Does anyone here like HP Lovecraft I'm a fan of some his more graphic stories such as The Rats in the Walls and
the Dunwich horror.

He has a very odd style. You should try Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books if you like HP.

One of my prized possessions is a first edition of "The Lurker at the Threshold", signed by Derleth.
Wish I had the money to collect Lovecraft memorabilia.

Yep, I enjoy Lovecraft, and his imitators (eg: Brian Lumley). Even better, a lot of Lovecraft is out of copyright (maybe all of it), so you can get it at project Gutenberg.

As far as wanting more time to read is concerned, have you tried reading ebooks via mobiles.

I've just put a blog entry on my tech blog about reading e-books on the blackberry. It works on other mobile phones too, including Windows and Symbian. I'm reading H.G Wells' Island of Doctor Moreau at the moment but have downloaded some Lovecraft to read too..

Anyway, if you're interested, the blog entry is here...

Have you seen Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics? They're like Lovecraft with pictures.

He's great.

If you like him, you should read some Neil Gaimen.

(How could I miss this thread? Silly me!)

Yes, I'm probably the biggest Lovecraft fan here, I've read all his stories, as well as loads of stories by imitators (none of whom even come close). My favourite ones are "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" (his only novel; "The Lurker at the Threshold" was mostly written by August Derleth), "The Whisperer in Darkness", "The Dreams in the Witch-House", "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Thing on the Doorstep", "The Color Out of Space" and "The Dunwich Horror".

I was delighted to recently discover the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society which produces radio plays, silent movies, spoof songs and various other Lovecraft-related merchandise in a 1920s or 30s retro style.

Might I add that I really do not care for Lovecrafts imitators. NONE of them can capture the atmosphere that Lovecraft creates. The only authors who come close are his predecessors like Arthur Machen and Algernon Blackwood, the former which I am a huge fan. Also, I never understood why people find humor in Lovecrafts stories. He's about the most humorless writer Ive ever read :P . CompLitCrit folks-the english language academics-seem to despise him because his writing style precludes character development and his pedantic style offends them.
