Is it abnormal to be a good writer when you have Aspergers?

I got into a extremely hard writing program at my school, and I was wondering if being able to write clearly is normal or abnormal for Aspies? I love writing - especially abstract poetry :D

I wouldn't say AS has much or any bearing on how good a writer you are.

I was pretty good at English though my interests for the moment lie elsewhere. I still wouldn't rule out one day getting seriously into writing again.

I've been published nationally AND internationally since the age of 12... I was always winning writing competitions and entering national speech competitions etc. It's by far my strongest scholastic point.

On the other hand, I was told I wasn't allowed to keep doing maths after a certain point because I was so bad at it. Ah well, can't win them all! :D

I have several anime style story lines in mind for video games. I have written some of the stories and everyone I've told about them loved them.

I didn't think I was much of a writer, but I recently took a Screenwriting corse, and had to submit a 10 page screenplay for the assesment. I got top marks which surprised me.

It was a drama centred around a young rookie on his first day in the crazy world of Professional Wrestling. I can upload it if anybody's interested?

I consider myself pretty good with poetry and literature. Hand writing, however, is not my forte.

Well, I am continously struggling on my book, I successfully wrote 60 solid pages of work, (in Reader Layout View of MSword, otherwise 40 in normal), and it's going on mesmerizingly.

Wait, I am not allowed to show off right j/k

Found this topic, going to have to reply because it's so interesting. :D

Writing has always been someting I've done even when I was younger. I want to be a published author someday. I'm working on many novels right now. Realizing I have AS, however, has made me realize something; most of my writing is dialouge, I have trouble knowing how to describe the characters actions. If they're talking they typically don't use gestures or expressions probably due to the fact that I primarily only notice what's being said during a conversation. I'm working on correcting this now, I just have to pay attention to what I'm writing to see if I'm skimming over.

Writing is my true talent and creating stories is my passion. I'm not joking whenever I listen to a song, read a book, watch a movie or anything else, the first things that go through my head are stories. I only started writing them down a few years ago because I believed that I hated writing. In truth, it was handwriting I hated. I didn't mind typing. I wrote up the first few chapters of a book that I'm thinking of continuing again and everyone said that they were really good. I also have an unusual talent for poetry. Nearly everything I write, usually without even trying, seems to turn out well written and excellent. I once recited some of my poems for the school in a talent show that I had auditioned for and made into. I had people keep on coming up to me to compliment me on them for the next two weeks. I suddenly felt inspired and wrote a poem to demonstrate. I DID NOT copy this from anywhere!

Through the shadows,
Through the wind,
A bird flies through the coming storm.
Where it is heading not even it knows,
A mystery to even it.
The rain is coming,
no stars for comfort,
It shall fly until the night has gone.

Many of us are verbal, so no, writing well isn't unusual.

I'm a good writer; statement of fact, as arrogant as it sounds. I joined AP English 11 during sophomore year (and our AP English is significantly harder than most; more fact) and was one of five students to receive at least an A past first quarter (which, despite coming in a full month late, I also got an A in); I achieved straight As throughout the year, no work. 5 on the AP exam, easy.

Creatively, I was first published at 11, then published again at 12, 13, and 14, both in the UK and the US. I've been more or less turning down offers to do more since then. Placed in a state competition (as an alternate) at 14; over 1,000 kids worked up to be in that competition, and 350 were competing that day. Received an offer from a publisher for one of my works in progress (I turned it down). First student in half a decade to get A+s throughout creative writing, which is also harder at our school than at most (we're one of the most difficult schools in the state; fact again).

I write when I wish to write; at the moment, I'm mainly toying around with some competitions.

I would say it can be a plus. Now there's artistic Dyslexic people, and they have a real difficulty with writing as you all know, but man they can be very creative, same applies to aspies.

Some people believe that John Lennon was Dsylexic, and some believe Bob Dylan is an aspie.
I certainly think Pete Townshend from The Who is an aspie.

Good writers eh? lol :)

Several English professors have told me that I should be an English major, though I don't really see what they're talking about. I like my math :D
