a couple of bands which just makes life great
Neutral Milk Hotel - everything they did was ingeniously brilliant
Belle and Sebastian-If You're Feeling Sinister and The Life Pursuit have taken over my mind this month, racing beutiful thoughts
Arcade Fire - nothing but good emotions here
Cat Power - for those who love girl singers, excellent, genius music
The National - deep voiced and extremely talented
Spoon - for those who like speedy kinda music, most talented of that genre at this time in my opinion
Okkervil River - sings a lot about those with Asperger's, just not directly, emotional music
Sufjan Stevens - happiness built into the music
Sigur Ros - very slow and beautiful tunes, very talented

You'd probably like that first, self-titled Tindersticks album.

Neutral Milk Hotel is awesome.

I love the instrumental folk (basically solo acoustic guitar) station on pandora.com

I heard the Arcade Fire is used as a torture instrument in guantanamo

John Frusciante 'to record only water for ten days'

The album was written during and shortly after his stint in rehab. It contains quite a bit of subtle wisdom about overcoming adversity.

Potsic, if you like Arcade Fire you might like to check out Final Fantasy. No, not the game, but one Owen Pallett, violinist from the aforesaid...He does all sorts of weird quirky sampling stuff with his violin, and when he performs he has a girl doing overhead projection stuff with cutouts. Saw him at Bumbershoot and it was way cool. Have a listen:

Love, love, LOVE Neutral Milk Hotel.
I'd almost say they're one of my obsessions.
Also, really stoked to see someone on here mention Owen Pallett/Final Fantasy.
Astounding artist, that guy. His violin has made me feel okay again more times than I can count.
Pretty much every single one of the artists that Potsic mentioned are on my favorites list.

Blues especially from the 30s and 40s generally makes me happy.
For really upbeat stuff, I like Django Reinhardt.
Leon Redbone
Mississippi John Hurt
Blind Willie Johnson
Some of Tom Wait's comic pieces can be good for lifting my mood, but mostly his stuff is dark.
