I think that the surest way to be able to have a career in the theater is to work as a "techie". You might not be treated very well by some of the actors but, hey, at least you would be consistantly employed and you'll probably make more money than some of the actors.

This is truth.

I always found it good to show some respect to the techies. After all, you'd don't want to be onstage, performing in the dark 8)

Or naked! :P

Actually, that depends on the show. There are some shows with quite a bit of nudity.

*coughlikeEquuscough* Seriously, I'm not kidding, that was a travesty. I've got a friend who is a hardcore Harry Potter fangirl, I met her at a theatre convention, and when she saw that they were offering an Equus playbill autographed by Daniel Radcliffe for bid in the silent auction she went completely squirrelsh*t and started asking for donations to everyone there, including yours truly. Then she almost cried when someone outbid her for it. I love her to death, but I just don't understand what would motivate her to that extreme

Thankfully Emma Watson decided not to take it off, she was considering a nude role in one of her planned post-Potter productions... wait WTF am I thankful for, I WANTED her to accept that role!! ! I mean I did have a crush on her as Hermione as a kid, and I'm sure the other HP fanguys share my thoughts on this subject...

I am currently doing a college course in Acting and Performance and its boosted my confidence so much.

We are currently doing spring awakening how cool is that?

I suggest anyone who wants to build their self esteem or confidence theatre is the way to go.

Its an amazing experience and something I can't live without. its fantastic.

Yes u do get the idiots who take it too far ego wise but in my college they are not liked and have few friends in the college. Others say even less potential.

once u get past them its fine. U will normally find that u are ur biggest critic.

You're friends with the OBC of RENT? Like Anthony Rapp and Idina Menzel?

The musical is the play, I think you mean the play or movie.

I'm the closest with Adam Pascal and his wife.

Matt caplan,D'Monore , Shaun Earl (summer 2007, and closing cast), Rodney Hicks, Adam Kantor (closing Mark on Broadway), Andy Senor Jr(closing Broadway cast and current tour), Cary Shields (2003 Roger, and Adam Pascal's current understudy for the tour)

Actually, that was directed towards the person doing Spring Awakening, I wasn't talking about RENT in that comment. That's cool though, Adam seems like a really nice guy. :]

*sigh* I miss the drama club back in high school.
Actually I didn't really get to do much performing. I like making people laugh but my high school either did musicals (& I have a horrible singing voice) or dramas (which were usually very boring and had little comedy).
So I switched over to stage crew, where my artistic talent got a chance to shine. I designed the billboard, the playbill, helped paint the backdrop, etc. It was a lot of fun. I still wish I was able to perform more.
It's funny, I feel so embarrassed making myself look stupid in the real world, but on stage I don't have a care in the world. I guess because I'm like putting on a masquerade, where the people are looking at your character & are amused instead of looking at you & are judgmental.
It's because of this that I wish everyday could be Halloween, you can dress up & act however you want and nobody would even mind.
