What you see is your creation
An untrue interpretation
Of what you thought I should be
What you thought would be me
But I could never seem to fit
I didn't resemble even a bit
And your only response was regret
So far you haven't seen me yet

So I'm not the standard prototype, when you see me near there's no need to gripe
And call me names like "freak" and "creep", I have feelings too and they're pretty deep
I may not travel in your clique but, at least, I know what makes me tick
What you see is what you get and so far you haven't seen me yet
So you had my life all arranged, didn't you think I'd want a change?
So you thought I would be content, didn't you guess that I'd resent?
Your thoughts concerning my well-being was opposite to what you were seeing

What you see is completely false
Your finger was never on the pulse
You had someone else on your mind
When you tried to have me defined
I don't fit your mold, I'm not status quo
I'm the one you didn't know
Nothing in stone was ever set

So the world I live in isn't yours, what right have you to start shutting doors?
So my point of view has another slant, how dare you think to say I can't!
You label me as a "worthless cause" and exhibit just my faults and flaws

So you say I can't walk in your shoes, that doesn't mean I'm bound to lose
So you say I'm a tragic tale, that doesn't mean I'm doomed to fail
Just cause you said this since my youth doesn't mean it's the truth

So I walk to the beat of a different drum
That's no reason to call me “dumb”
So I see the world through different eyes
That's no excuse to classify
Me as one of life's accidents
Or having sub-par intelligence

What you see is make-believe
What were you trying to achieve?
Did you think if you fantasized
You'd make truths out of all your lies?
This is who I am and I am real
I'm not one of the spokes in a giant wheel
Yeah, I'm different...but it's not a debt
So far you haven't seen me yet

Then what is the real you?

To be honestly truthful with you, I'm still trying to figure it out --- it's been a lifelong quest and I've had to wade through an ocean of negative feedback and others' misguided intentions...sometimes I wind up two or three steps in reverse before I realize it. I'm confused --- I'm well aware that I haven't lived up to anyone's expectations (including my own) and, yet, I still have somehow managed to stay in the game...whatever the game is.
