Those seem like tools for hiding as well, from a reality that even if you exist on the outside of it that seems to be somersaulting into oblivion. Its part of that whole confusion of living in a day and age where the culture is quasi-religious, quasi-atheistic, no one has any answers on how to plot a course forward, and the systems that we've built to manage the complexities of our reality have taken on logic all their own to where they stop serving their purpose so much as serving their own existence. So, there's a lot of angst, anxiety, and nihilism to be had by all.
