My middle brother is having a barbecue with his friends right now. They are listening to a stereo and it was playing "I Love it Loud" from Kiss really loud. Then I started to wonder if anyone here in WP had bought a Kiss CD or LP as their first LP or CD. I heard that was a pretty common thing. In Gene Simmons Family Jewels Genne said he has lost the count of how many people said to him the first CD or LP they bought was from Kiss. That was also my case as the first CD that I bought was "You Wanted the Best You Got the Best" from Kiss which is a really good CD. I bought it when I was around 15 and would listen to it a lot and Kiss was my favourite band back then.

So anyone had a similar experience? Share your comments here!

I was a huge Kiss fan growing up, and am today for nostalgic reasons. 'RNR Over' and 'Love Gun' were my first two albums. Kiss history was one of my 'aspie interests' and I can name off a lot of useless trivia about the band, including what is rumored and what is fact.

I didn't get to see them live until 1990, which was Eric Carr's last tour before his untimely death, but I saw the Reunion Tour in '96 and had the time of my life. When it was announced that a new album was in the works, I was really hoping for a proper album. That didn't happen as 'Psycho Circus' was filled with ghost musicians and turned into another Gene/Paul album for the most part.

I think the band is a joke with Gene/Paul and the two scabs dressed as Peter/Ace now. I think that is one reason they were passed over for the Hall of Fame this year, as in they were on the ballot but weren't voted in.

Despite the joke the band has become, I will always hold the music and memories in high regard.

...on 8-Track tapes.

I was too scared by the cover of Destroyer to buy a copy when it came out in what '74, '75? Flaming cities and weird androgynous get-ups it was just too much, so of course I became a fan. I didn't need to buy an album cause all my friends had 'em. We immediately started a band with cheap knock-off guitars and tiny Fender amps. We played Strutter over and over for days. All the racy overtones went right over my head, I had no clue what any of the songs were about.

My wife and I saw the recent tour in LA at Nokia and it was ridiculously great.

My little sister owns most of their albums on LP and CD! The way she talks about them and obsessively knows all the useless trivia, you'd think it was an "Aspie interest", but she's pretty NT otherwise! We saw them last year at Rock 2 Wellington. I thought they were a bit dated, personally - they're still doing the same stuff as 35 years ago. And their songs are a bit samey for me.

Oh, thank your lucky stars they're still doing the stuff from 35 years ago! Most of the music after say...Music from the Elder...SUCKS...well, I'll grant 'em Heaven's on Fire, that was '84 I think - after that, forget it...really they were at their peak on the first three albums, then Bob Ezrin managed to get another three or four Pop-bomb albums out of 'em, which is where most of their memorable catalogue comes from. After that, it was a steady decline...

But they always put on a helluva show. I've seen 'em three different tours, still have my original concert shirt from the Love Gun tour.

Back in '79 in Tulsa I remember Ace Frehley right in the middle of New York Groove, stepped away from his shadows under the amps and looked out over the footlights. He kind of made eye contact with the audience and seemed to completely lose his train of thought - it took him two verses and half a chorus to remember the lyrics and find his place in his own song. I felt terrible for the guy, that must have been really embarrassing.
