So, one of the many things that I plan on doing when I get out of college is being a comic book artist. Not the superhero kind, but the alternative kind. And among other things, I plan on writing a story in comic form (although it may be a whole book, we'll see) about a guy who has Asperger's and is dating someone, but it's proving to be very problematic for him because of his social interaction difficulties. It came to me in a dream, and once I woke up I realized that I really wanted to draw it.

But I do have some questions about it that I wanted to ask you guys. Do you think that aspies would read a comic book story about aspie characters? How about NTs? I don't particularly care if it sells well or not. And is there anything you think I should avoid in depicting an aspie? Like, so no one gets a negative impression of us?

Thanks so much in advance! I don't plan on writing this for a long way off, but I would like to get a basic idea of what people would think and what I should avoid.

And if this belongs somewhere else...could someone tell me how to do that? I haven't been here very long. Thanks!

I do not think it's the general public to whom it would appeal. This is a "niche maket."

I think it would be a good idea. You probably shouldn't use a stereotype, such as portraying an aspie that only has an obsessive interest about science fiction or someone who only has an obsessive interest in computers, or only an obsessive interest in drawing or anything pertaining to art; so try to have your character have a few obsessive interests instead of only one.

Or a few characters..

eg:

One who is obsessive (you could exagerate it)

One who is extremely slack and selfish.

One like a little kid, very dopey in some ways, genious and creative in other ways.

I think that subtlety is key here. If you focus on the day-to-day struggles your character faces, balanced with a little humour, it'll make an enjoyable read.
