Woohoo! SOAD kicks ass! they are probably one of the best bands out there. I'd have to say that my favourite song by them is f**k the System. It always makes me hyper whenever I hear it lol. I recently bought their new album hypnotize and was a bit dissapointed with it. I felt that it just didn't have the same kinda "spark" that mezmerize had. What do you guys think of hypnotize?

I'll tell you what else I love about the SOAD sound... they say they don't do it on purpose, but they have this middle-easternish quality in some of their songs, including Hypnotize. I love that sound. Also, I can get into their silly lyrics and admire serious songs like Soldier Side.

They've got a good thing going all around. Not everyone can like what they do, but I do.

I believe that they inherit their sound from their homeland of Armenia. And I speculated that they moved out to Cali to escape whatever the f**k is goin on in that country, but they actually moved to Colombia. See what cocaine will do to u? It will cause you to move from a 3rd world hell hole, to a 3rd world hell hole.

I do not like the acronym, I prefer using the full name SYSTEM OF A DOWN.
I had never listened to their music before recently because people told me they were too dark and violent (in their music and lyrics, I mean). But I liked Lonely Day when I first heard it, all the more that the lyrics were perfectly describing my state of mind at that moment. I still like this song, but I have not heard any other songs by this band.

yea system for sure is one of my favourite bands. Hyper metal rocks. My favourite albums were the first and steal this album i like the big puinishing bass on both of those albums. Toxicity was really lacking that thunderous bass and the last 2 albums i didnt like that much there was a few good songs but system definitely lost there edge. I mean how many of you actually listened to system before toxicity and can remember how insanely different there forst album was in 98 nothing sounded even remotely like system back then. Thats what made them so wicked!

I prefer their 1st 3 albums:

SOAD (Their Debut Album)

Toxicity

Steal This Album!

In my opinion, I think Steal This Album! is the best 1 out of the 3 I like.

Not a fan of their recent work though.

My favourite songs from Steal This Album! is "F*** The System", and "Boom!"

My favourite songs from their debut album is "cuBERT" and from Toxicity "Bounce", "Chop Suey" and "Shimmy".

I don't listen to them as much as I used to.

I think SOAD's got a unique sound and that's something I will always support and respect. That said, they're not for me.

My favorite non-power metal band. So uniquely insane.

My first taste of these guys was the music from Hypnotize, and it caught my ear as to how different and partly alienatic (if that's a word) it was to me. I borrowed Hypnotize and Mesmerize from two different friends, and managed to put both albums on one CD, to my suprise (eternal doom pending). That said, when I listened to Toxicity, which was borrowed from yet another friend, I found that it lacked the manic alienatic sounds that hooked me in the beggining. Sad Statue also inspired a peice for my story, which plays along to the beat of the song (how? Only my own mind can tell, and it's still trying to figure it out).
