Who here hates Overproductive Music?
It depends on what you mean by 'overproduced,' doesn't it?
I agree if you mean the sort of overdone, gimmicky productions that modern pop gets... autotune, cliche club samples, compressed mastering etc. Like Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Kesha, and so forth.
I like complex music though, and I appreciate it when production is used creatively. Just throwing out some obvious examples... would groups like Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine and Radiohead fall under your definition of overproduced? They've all gone overboard at times but I think most people would agree that groups like them wouldn't be the same without their production.

I agree with this. I like complex music that is on the avant-garde side. People who would criticize those bands in the second paragraph for being "overproduced" would annoy me. Clearly they just don't "get" complex music and have a different preference.
However, I can understand criticisms of using auto-tune being used with simple pop, country, or folk music. If music is simple I at least want it to be soulful. Auto-tune takes all the soul out of the singers voice. Up to a certain limit I don't care if a singer is slightly off pitch at times as long as they can put emotion behind their voice. I guess some people just want a catchy melody they can remember and don't care about music being emotionally moving. So to each their own I guess.

What gets defined as "overproduced" is a subjective judgement. I like electronic effects if they are used creatively and help set the mood of a piece of music. I don't like otherwise simple pop music where the studio production is only used to make it sound more "perfect".
So you would say bands like Radiohead make overproduced music?
they are a fairly progressive band who don't break grounds on sound engineering so much as they do on composition and arrangement. Overproduced or underproduced is fine so long as there is a context so we know what we're comparing or qualifying.

Okay. I still don't quite understand the definition of overproduced. Probably because I don't listen to top40 music on the radio.
