My dad has suspected aspergers and I THINK he plays the violin.

On an unrelated note, there is no such thing as an "AS Sufferer"

Some people feel like they've benefited from it, and others think it's ruined their lives. YMMV.

It has positive and negative results. For me, the lack of social skills, my impatience, tendancy to 'melt down' and other traits effect my life negatively. However, my ability to become obsessed with subjects has made me very knowledgable.

But, AS is a disability - thus; someone suffers from it. Anyone who disagrees, I suggest reading the Oxford Dictionary!

I play too :) I've been playing for, ooh, 14 years, but have neglected it a bit since 2nd year performance at university. Baroque's my thing. I'm going to go practise now and annoy my housemate! I spent my teens in a small room with my violin doing the same thing over and over again. Sound familiar? :D

That's not an argument at all. Just because a majority of people (that majority being NTs) defines it as a disability, does not mean that everyone accepts that definition. I certainly don't.

I used to.

I started at 6, and got to Grade 6 by the time I was 13., I barely scraped the exam and cried when my teacher put the Grade 7 pieces on my music stand.

I gave up lessons shortly afterwards although I continued playing in the school orchestra.

After a break from formal music lessons for a year, I started piano and found my new love. I'd gone from nothing to Grade 7 on piano in 3 years and never looked back.

When I finished Uni I went back to violin a bit - I played with my local symphony orchestra for several years until I started a family and the time commitment became impractical. I've hardly played for the last ten years. I still have my violin though and I still remember how to play it.

I'm not a 'sufferer' of AS, more like a benefactor of it, but I do play it occasionally.

I'm better with cello, bass and upright viola though.

I played the violin up until about 4 years ago. Recently someone got me back into it, but it's taking a lot of dedication to get back to where I was.

I've never seen this thread before! 8O

I've played violin all my life. I used to do public recitals and concert performances (somewhere around age 12-14 I think), but gave it up for a number of years, and picked up the guitar. I did pick up the violin again, though, and still play to this day.

I do not suffer from AS - I revel in it!

(Yes, I do play the violin.)
