Good on you for making positive changes to your life.
I do find a fair bit of popular culture and counter-culture a bit too negative myself, and death metal would be one of the most extreme examples.
But even so I still occasionally check out death metal tracks on youtube. I always find the lyrics incomprehensible, and I find all that growling and speed drumming oddly amusing.
But then when you look at the band names, the album covers and the lyrics, a lot of it is pretty unpleasant.
Perhaps I also need to find some more life-affirming heavy metal to listen to!


Unpleasant lyrics is a very good way to put it. Some of the bands like Cannibal Corpse have some of the most vile, hateful, brutal, sadistic and despicable lyrics you can think of. I'm glad I've turned away from Cannibal Corpse because they're possibly the most creepiest band out there. I wouldn't say they're satanic or anything like that, I'd just say that they're violent and hateful, and they do push the envelope with the violent lyrics quite a bit.



Their lyrics are violent but not hateful at all.

Well, you have to admit, they can go a bit overboard on the violence level.

I don't really see how any of this matters. You can't even hear the lyrics, and if you didn't understand the language that is being sung you wouldn't know what they were saying anyway.

I'm a christian and I love Cannibal Corpse, mainly because they DON'T MEAN WHAT THEY SAY.

Violent death metal lyrics are for the lols and shock. They are not meant to be serious. Even if it’s not your type of humor, there are still plenty of bands with different subjects.

I'm sorry but the bible is just about as violent as Cannibal Corpse. More than likely, you can thank brutal acts such as the crusades/inquisition for your current faith - otherwise chances are you would be Pagan. You're not supposed to take CC seriously so their lyrics hurt no-one, but you're expected to take the bible seriously, aren't you?

When I became seriously Christian my musical tastes turned to girly dance music from rap and metal I used to listen to. I really liked eurodance I heard as a child, but my fundamentalist parents wouldn't let me listen to it. Now I'm an adult and listen to it all I want.

After seeing and experiencing all kinds of terrible stuff in my life, I wanted music to be my one escape. If I wanna hear about people murdering people and stuff, I can simply turn on the news. In my music, I tend to want nice imagery. Not always, but like 90% of the time or more.

Oh well, time to go listen to Aqua - Roses are Red. Woohoo.
