Thank you :D

I was a bit shy about posting my art for people to see, but I have to say it's been so nice to get everyone's comments.

Thanks for the tip about putting the light at the side. I'll try that.

That is very nicely done, I am rather amazed. Do you often work in acrylics? I like when people try a realistic approach, so I enjoy looking at this. I hope you will post more works, I'd be truly interested in seeing them. Another thing that I was thinking about is; do you use a reference when you paint or do you paint from your memory?

Hi ccgensou, glad you like it. :D I like acrylics very much, they dry so much quicker than oil and they're more 'substantial' than watercolour, although I like using acrylics with a lot of water for washes. The colours seem more vibrant than watercolours.
I tend to paint from photographs, usually flowers. I've not been painting for very long so I try to get as close to reality as I can. I think it's good practice to see if I can do it. I am working on a new painting at the moment. If it turns out well I'll post it. (If it doesn't it'll go in the bin  )

Hm, I see, that's interesting. My father paints in oils, but I have never had the opportunity to try acrylics, so it's nice hearing the reason why you like them.
A flower is a beautiful motif, I can understand why you like to paint them. And, may I ask? How long time have you been painting? Since you mentioned that you have not been painting for so long.
Then I wish you luck with the painting you are working on now.

I've only been painting for about a year. I've just started at a class for a couple of hours a week, to learn the basics.
My father also used to paint with oils. Oils certainly stand the test of time, except the blues maybe, can lighten over time if kept in a sunny spot.

totally agree, I like acrylics because you don't have to wait for them to dry (like oils), they give you an almost instant response :)

Im sure youve heard of this website already, but ill post it anyway, www.deviantart.com is THE largest art community on the internet, and registration is free if you dont mind putting up with the occasional banner add. There is everything from projects done in MS Paint to fully fledged 'art framed to go in a gallery' projects.

Then I must say, you're doing well!
You're quite right about that.
And thank you for answering my questions. :D
