Real rap for me, Nas is in my top 5, second only behind Pac.

I love rappers who put out a lot of socially conscious tracks or songs that describe the "Back against the wall, down & out" mentality as I can relate to songs like that.

"We will survive" and "Project Windows" are some of my favorite Nas songs.

I don't mind listening to a Hip Hop songs with a nice beat and just rappin' though.

I don't like any of the people on the first option they are glam rap at best, and a poison in the music industry, but I like some Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, love Gangstarr, not a huge fan of nas. You could say I'm not a huge fan of East Coast Rap. I really like Rap in the G-Funk Era the most, coming from the West Coast. The beats were funky, as were the raps, no matter what they were about, they'd make you bounce and move your head. That was real rap. I don't care if it's about violence, drugs, b*****s, or anything, it's a story they're tellin', and people who take all of the music so personally and get mad listening to it aren't getting it. That being said, I love rap like Aesop Rock, Older Jedi Mind Tricks, and other rap that is a bit more intelligent, and has a much bigger message than say getting f****d up and stuff like that.

No problem, check out more of his stuff too if you like that. Even his newer stuff is a trip, and for me its surprising since I own each album he made, and I never expect anything to match the previous album or top it since they've all been so good. I recently came upon a couple tracks by "Brother Ali", and thought more people should hear him so here you go. You don't get to hear stuff like this much these days... But how could you when most "influential" rap these days is about jewelry they own and the drank in their cup, or about the music video where the half naked women dancing are the best part of the song and video.

"Real rappers" are ones that grow out of the braggerdocio style lyrics. Take Eminem for instance, he's 40 next year and most of his albums are still about being the best.

RECOVERY:
Cold Wind Blows - about returning to rap.
On Fire - bragging.
Wont Back Down - bragging.
W.T.P. - bragging, partying.
Going Through Changes - his past, notably his drugs.
Not Afraid - speaks for itself.
Seduction - bragging about woman.
No Love - braggerdocio.
Space Bound - sad love story.
Cinderella Man - bragging about himself.
25 to Life - love story, metaphor for the rap industry.
So Bad - bragging.
Almost Famous - bragging about himself and his past.
Love The Way You Lie - sad love story, again.
You're Never Over - tribute to Proof, also braggerdocio.
Untitled - bragging.

That's supposed to be the "best rapper alive"? Most mainstream rappers are like this, immature and never grow up. Conscious rappers grow out of that earlier on. What I have noticed is that the rappers I listen to don't have as many songs in one album as the likes of Eminem do. Probably because it's so easy to write about partying and being a so called "GOAT" that they don't bother writing things with meaning.

*sigh*

Arguments between "real" and "fake" [insert absolutely any genre of music here] are all pathetic. Music is subjective and people have different tastes, claiming your taste is better because it's "real" is arrogant and absurd.

Artists who can't make an album without bragging are being arrogant and absurd. I write rap songs all the time and grew out of braggadocio stylings about a year ago. I'm only 17 and can already tell that bragging means the artists are insecure and feels like they always has to prove something.

Again, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but you can't fall artists "fake" because their lyrics are not to your taste.

Just for the lulz:

I got a new fast car, I drive stick
And I f**k b*tches with my massive dick
I'm an awesome rapper, I'm really sick
I gave your sister's p**** a damn good lick

:P

I forgot to mention, I enjoy bragging if it's freestyling, because it's often funny and just for jokes. Like the lines you put. :)

Here's a song I wrote, on my Tumblr blog. Click here: Misfire (Liar Liar).

 Just so you know what kind of lyrcs I write.

I like Grubson, Metrowy, Roszja i Lu, Indy a Wich, Gipsy.cz (they sing too, but there is a lot of really good rapping in there...), Inner City Posse and erm...Insane Clown Posse (their old stuff, not their newer stuff). Most rap I listen to is foreign, though I will admit, Kanye West is not too bad to listen to sometimes. I like some of his songs.

There is hip hop, and then there is hip pop. Hip pop is what you hear on the radio such as people like Lil Wayne. Then there is Hip Hop like Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Brother Ali, Atmosphere, and so many incredible artists. What you hear on the radio is fake, I love rap the most genre wise with music but that stuff is the worst garbage ever produced!

I voted for the fake rap option but I really like pop music.
