You made a lucky find indeed :) You're in for a treat, IMO. I've read Dubliners a couple of times and really loved it, the last story ("The Dead") being my favorite and one of the most memorable things I've read. You won't find a lot of action here but excellent, subtle characterization and breathtaking imagery. I highly recommend reading and fully digesting each of the stories individually rather than devouring the whole thing as a whole... they make more sense that way and you get more out of them. I hope you enjoy it-- let me know how it goes! :)

I have yet to read every short story of Dubliners, and intend to procure a copy, but I have read Portrait of the Artist and his brilliant, enigmatical and lengthy masterwork Ulysses. I do not think I will much bother with Finnegan's Wake, which seems utterly fathomless at a glance and almost equally so on inspection. Being Irish, it is rewarding to walk abroad among the scenes depicted in the stories.

Dubliners is a fantastic book, Ulysses and Finnegans Wake are also great reads. While Ulysses and Finnegans Wake may seem dense they're really quite humorous reads when read by story rather than in whole.

I read it a few years ago and really enjoyed. I remember being surprised by how modern it felt.

I was hoping this thread was about the band "The Dubliners".
