I can't do it if I know somebody is listening. I took a singing class to try to get over my mental block and it made it worse. One of my classmates critiqued me really harshly--not mere brutal honesty, but outright snide insults (he didn't know he'd have to read it out loud to all of us). Yet there have been a few times when I've been caught off guard and complimented on my singing.

And as for the drama I sense in the preceding comments, I'm here to tell you that ANYONE can sing. You just have to find out how. There are a lot of vocal trainers out there who would be more than happy to analyze your vocal quality, timbre, and range to try to help you out. You'll sound ridiculous at first, but that's perfectly normal. It's a lot like lifting weights, but for your vocal cords.

Thank you art of trash, I think what bothers me now is that my sister and the rest of my family believe I can't sing, it doesn't run in the family and I am stupid for trying and failing. As if maybe "throwing people off" rates being shunned and getting nasty phone calls and emails. I have asked other people and they say it does not rate that bad and that is why I thought maybe I did or said something offensive or pissed them off with maybe a "stim" or something. My sister did not have her apologize and maybe I am disappointed over that. Because she still thinks something is wrong with me like I am some kind of science project.

Another thing is that Amanda is also an elementary music teacher and so, probably has run into at least a few kids on the spectrum. I don't know if teachers get any training about autism, but if she treats adults on the spectrum this bad, what will she do with kids?

Yes, myself and another guy play out. I sing all the hillbilly, and country music because that's the kind of stuff I grew up singing. My voice has what my wife calls a "natural swankyness" to it.
When I was very young (about 3) I was in the hospital for about a week. My mom says that at one point she came to visist and there was a crowd of nurses around listening to me sing. Not some kids song but something I had heard on the nurses radio. I had remembered it and sang it back to them. One of the Doctors ask my mom how long I had been doing that. She said I started singing before I could talk.

To make an amendment to my past post...I decided to test my range. Just 2 octaves haha...at least I have range in styles.

Technically I can, but not at all well!

I've been formally trained in the art for two years now, I should hope so! :P

Nope. I wish I could, been trying for years. So far I'm up to sounding like a strangled midget. Which is a new high for me. :D

I can sing, although my timbre and vocal quality is much more suited to choir or ensemble singing than as a soloist. Although I did have to perform solo pieces to audition for local choirs. I was lucky in the respect that my voice broke early (12 years of age) and by the time I was in upper sixth I had a range from C two octaves below middle C to the F above. When on form my falsetto covers the soprano and alto range.

Nowadays my falsetto is dead thanks to lack of practice (other than the shower). I do often sing Russian Red Army choir scores and Basso Profundo repertoire. Although my range isn't that of a Basso Profundo, my lower range is strong and full which helps!

I try to sing when I play guitar but I'm my own worst critic.

I'm an okay singer, but I don't sing unless I'm 100% alone because I feel like someone's going to laugh at me, then tell me to stop singing for good because I suck. When I DO sing, I like singing to mainstream pop music more than anything else!

I have been told my growls are better than my singing and that I am often very monotone...not sure what that means.

I picked "sort of," because I've got a pretty good range and can stay on key, but as for tone...ergh. I dunno, I just hate the sound of my own recorded voice generally. I've been told I can sing well on occasion, but, well, what use is a female baritone anyway? :|

I can sing very well, but don't ask me to sing stuff like rock, i have been told I suck. I was a soprano 1 singer for my university choir for two years before I had to leave when practice schedule changed. I can have little to good vibrato depending on the song I am singing but the downside is that my voice sounds very young when i talk, i am 29 and ppl still think im 12 on the phone and 15 in person. i guess i age well?

Not well. I mean I can sing, but never in my normal voice.

Not only do I sing exceptionally well, but can sing most any style, too. My range is amazing.

Now I feel like a total jerk because I am praising myself... but I am going to post it anyway.
