So one would hope. :P

Hunger certainly sounds a gripping read, judging by the synopsis.
What other literature do you enjoy?

Mishima, Burroughs, kerouac, Fante, bukowski, welsh.

I'm not sure whether they all count as literature in its most grandiose sense.

How about you? Whom do you like?

Fond of Burroughs, Kerouac and Welsh (assuming, of course, you're referring to Irvine Welsh).
Very keen to read Mishima, but I'm decidedly unfamiliar with Fante and Bukowski.

Mainly enjoy the classics of English literature, 20th century sci-fi (Vonnegut, Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein, and so on), and an array of classics from those literary traditions that lie outside the Anglosphere. For the moment, I'm really into Dostoevsky's work.

I think almost every Depeche Mode song can be depressing. Probably Sarah Mclachlan could count too, especially if you know what the song "Angel" is really about. It's really about someone who's committing suicide. I'd also nominate the song "All By Myself"

The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side by The Magnetic Fields. This song never sounds depressing but it is when you really think about the lyrics.
Pillars by Sunny Day Real Estate
A Time to be So Small by Interpol.
A lot of stuff by Joy Division and some by New Order. I can't pick favorites; they all sound great and have nice stories. All I know is that I can play them multiple times in a row and not get tired of them.

Been listening to these two artists today. I am in love with depressing music. I think that it might qualify as a special interest. :(

A very bleak world-weary song at the beginning, but it then it really builds.

IMO the regular version flows a bit better but, I think the video's bunk. Chillingly deep tech jazz, Roya's lyricism and emotional command over both her voice and content is unbelievable - shame she left the music biz.

An even darker and moodier interpretation of Bachelorette. I can tear up if I haven't heard it in a while but its more off of the Sanitarium type vibes in this  .

Most songs by Pink Floyd are kind of depressing, and that's my favorite band.

As I said yesterday on my Tumblr, What Are You Gonna Do With Your Life?, Rust, and Forgiven by EATB make me blubber internally. :(
