Several songs do this to me:

--The choral part of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
--"Nobody's Fool" by Cinderella
--The LSU Fight Song
--"My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion (Yes, I am a "Titanic" fanatic)
--"Purple Rain" by Prince
--"As The World Falls Down" by David Bowie (from the "Labyrinth" soundtrack)
--"Ave Maria" as sung by Michael Crawford
--The title track from "Phantom of the Opera" as sung by Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford

And one other one which I will not disclose publicly because it's very personal to me.

When I was 12 the school had a small orchestra in and they played 663 Squadron from the film of ths same title, and I just sat there with tears rolling down my face cos it made all my hairs creep and it was so emotional.

Don't think it would do it now, though.

Try this...I shuddered the first time I heard it. In a nice way.

Oh, I can't post urls yet -------------- >>>>>>>>>>> So

go find the title music for Watchmen...way cool.

I get goosebumps when I listen to the new album by Katatonia, "Dead End Kings". Mostly the song "Undo You" at roughly the 1:45 mark.

This one.

For some background, Mykel and Carli are said to be the biggest fans of Weezer, ever. They were friends of the band back in the early days and were the creators of the fan club. But at the same time, every other Weezer fan out there said they were two of the most down-to-earth people you could ever meet. Rivers wrote this song for them in 1993 or so. In 1997, Weezer went on tour and the two drove to every show, along with their younger sister.

Until the band played in Salt Lake City.

They never showed up and after the concert, Rivers Cuomo called their mother to ask what was wrong. The three had been killed in a car accident on their way to the show. This recording came from a benefit concert for them. Their parents can be seen watching from the side of the stage in a few spots.

Most striking to me though is Rivers' voice in it. He sounds exactly like a former bandmate of mine from college who died from a severe allergic reaction back in April, especially on the higher parts of the song.

Josh (my former bandmate who died) always said the only band he ever would compare us to in musical style was Weezer.

"The Rose" by Bette Midler
"Can't Let You Go" by Adam Lambert (after a bad breakup)
"Ronan" by Taylor Swift (my uncle died from cancer last year and I had a sister who died when I was four from cerebral palsy complications)

A song with:

1. Great lyrics
2. Wonderful music
3. A unique singer

Makes goosebumps happen, creates a strong emotional response and thus, another good song getting stuck in my head.

The official term for that feeling you refer to 'frisson'. I think it started from french.

If I don't get it from a song, it doesn't go into my playlist. And it's an absolute criterion for my songwriting - if it doesn't cause a frisson, I modify the song until it does. Unless I get an emotional reaction from my own music, there's little to no chance anyone else ever will.

Of course I have. I've also been moved to tears, rage, depression, heartache... etc. How a song affects me, though, depends a lot on what's going on in my life at any given time.
