Whitemane Path of a Skypony

It's a rare book that you can buy used...

All time favorite, if you are spiritual, feel like you've lived before and can go out of body, etc, some of the things will make sense to you. The title may sound childish, but they probably used horses as a way so everyone can read it without prejudice.. unless you hate horses. o.o Metaphysics ftw. :D

It goes in spurts for me, with quite a few series I like to revisit. I'm thinking of picking up Anne Rice again...maybe the Taltos series...

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is awesome. For the record, Life of Pi and Stray Birds are the other volumes of my unofficial holy writings, in my religion of unnamed me-ness.

Songs of Innocence and of Experience Showing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul by William Blake

I could happily spend the rest of my life trying to understand this work of genius.

Quote:
“The Divine Image”

To Mercy Pity Peace and Love,
All pray in their distress:
And to these virtues of delight
Return their thankfulness.

For Mercy Pity Peace and Love,
Is God our father dear:
And Mercy Pity Peace and Love,
Is Man his child and care.

For Mercy has a human heart
Pity, a human face:
And Love, the human form divine,
And Peace, the human dress.

Then every man of every clime,
That prays in his distress,
Prays to the human form divine
Love Mercy Pity Peace.

And all must love the human form,
In heathen, turk or jew.
Where Mercy, Love & Pity dwell,
There God is dwelling too.

or

“The Human Abstract”

Pity would be no more,
If we did not make somebody Poor:
And Mercy no more could be,
If all were as happy as we;

And mutual fear brings peace;
Till the selfish loves increase.
Then Cruelty knits a snare,
And spreads his baits with care.

He sits down with holy fears,
And waters the ground with tears:
Then Humility takes its root
Underneath his foot.

Soon spreads the dismal shade
Of Mystery over his head;
And the Catterpiller and Fly,
Feed on the Mystery.

And it bears the fruit of Deceit,
Ruddy and sweet to eat;
And the Raven his nest has made
In its thickest shade.

The Gods of the earth and sea,
Sought thro’ Nature to find this Tree
But their search was all in vain:
There grows one in the Human Brain.

:D

Quote:
"A Poison Tree"

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine.
And he knew that it was mine,

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

It's so much fun trying to catch "Blake in the act of meaning something we can understand...."

One of my favorite poems. I was obsessed with Blake too for a long time. 8)
