I'll admit that I tend to enjoy a fair amount of today's pop music, at least temporarily, just for its sheer catchiness and feel-good nature. Right now the chorus to Pitbull and Christina Aguilera's new song "Feel This Moment" has been perpetually stuck in my head (even though the cynical side of me thinks the song's sampling of A-Ha was kind of gratuitous). And I love the throwback vibe of Justin Timberlake's new song "Suit & Tie". I do tend to get sick of a lot of these songs quickly due to a combination of overexposure and their generally disposable nature, but sometimes it just feels good to turn on the top 40 station (of course it also helps that I'm fascinated with radio in general and have chosen it as a career path).
It feels good to go back and listen to a lot music I grew up with from the 90's as well, just for that sense of comfort And a lot of music I love from the late 50's and 60's gives me those good-time vibes as well, though that generally holds up a lot better for me over time than more recent pop music. Even a lot of the lesser-known alternative/indie type music that I listen to is catchy and upbeat. This is not to say that I am closed-minded towards darker music (I listen to a fair amount of grunge, for example), but I don't think that it's inherently bad for a song to be catchy and fun - in fact, I think people underestimate how much talent it takes to make a great pop record.
