i am familiar with a number of renditions of "inca roads", but i had not heard the rendition "snippet" that i posted in my post before that day. it takes the song into a different dimension of the "motive" underlying the structure of the melody. it also has a subtle synthesizer track that embosses the main forward thrust of the song, and of course, the rhythm signatures are far more difficult to perform (and far more intriguing to hear) in the rendition i posted than in the studio version (which itself is grueling to reproduce).

but i still like the generic studio version best because it was planned and pieced together meticulously, and retakes could be almost endlessly performed until the exact sound that zappa was looking for was achieved.

so i am inspired to listen to the studio version (from the "one size fits all" album) again, and so that is what i will be listening to in an indeterminate number of seconds after i have submitted this post.

it is interesting that there is much speculation about the meaning of the lyrics. i presume it is about the "nazca lines", and i think i am correct because the song lyrics cobble together quite a humerus tapestry of situational stupidity mingled with anchor points of validity, which makes one give more credit to the design of the "stupidity" in order to flesh out how the polar opposites compliment each other.
