"Estudio sin luz(Study without light)" by Andrés Segovia
I am currently learning this, so I've naturally been listening to it on repeat to get a subconscious feel for it. Though, I'm learning it on electric, so I'm also learning the most efficient way to play it while keeping the steel strings tame from going wild, and figured it'd be a fun song to practice my hybrid picking, so I don't think I shall be picking it up for at least a few weeks since it's sort of something I'm just doing on the side of my normal studies.
Good Stuff!! I love Andrés Segovia.
I do enjoy his art very much
. I was introduced to his name from my mother's boyfriend... so I didn't think much into checking Segovia's music out right away based on his generally horrific taste in music. I started studying music under many different types to keep my mind open to different possibilities in my own technique and sound a couple years ago, and later thought, "Maybe I'll check into that "And...er Segovia" classical guitarist guy since I like Yngwie Malmsteens Neo-classical metal style
. Glad I did
My only disappointment in his work is that I feel like I picked up the wrong instrument for the last 13 years and have really been missing out listening to almost nothing but metal since an early age
. I have an electric rig that was designed specifically around the sound of 80's metal that I invested a lot into setting up (I was into solely metal for many of the years of my life until all too recently). So listening to the sheer beauty of his work coming straight through nylon and wood was like a sledge to the face more than a slap >_>
I've honestly not gotten much further than refining what I learned when I posted that I had started learning the song. I'm working on disciplining the balance of grace and strength that must have been used when he played it, and also, having a bit of fun working on being able to play it with my eyes closed in a role playing type manner, since I found out that Segovia's vision was rather impaired when he wrote "Estudio sin Luz". I can play the introduction with my eyes closed, though I'm just trying to get it up to proper speed before adding on the next leg
I feel a bit like an arrogant dolt to have thought I'd have this song in my hands in just a few weeks... but his playing was so unlike modern guitarists, so I didn't expect as much a challenge I suppose. I am glad to be learning the song though, it has been teaching my hands so many things modern guitar pieces haven't.
My favorites off the top of my head of his would probably be "Mussorgsky: The Old Castle", "Albéniz: Leyenda" , and "Estudio sin luz", but I like many others, the song names just aren't usually all that... Catchy
