Just because you enjoy a good book, doesn't mean you can write one. I could perfectly say: I enjoy surgeries and watching doctors removing organs", but that doesn't make me qualified to do that myself. Things are to be left to professionals. Writing is an art, is a craft, it's a vocation, it's like sculpting slowly with words and letting them give them life, it's a talent, it's a relief of the soul of the writer because that's what a write is meant to do: to write.
It's a fusion of minds, the character's mind with the one of the writer together, unified, it's about composing and creating art.
I can't stand why people of this century appreciate art even less than people used to before. Before, you wouldn't see, someone who's not a writer, attempting to take a place that does not belong to him/her. Why? Because they already have a job, and are not meant for that. It's about an innate talent, passion, love for the art. It's not about making money, or commercial rubbish. No. To be a writer is a vocation, something that seeks you, something that is always looking for you, since always. It's not whim. It's about art. It's not something "trendy" to do nor fashion.
Why can't everybody go to their own business and respect the art?

I have since a year ago. I written "Dark Drama: The Ballet of Lucinda Cossette", a novel about autistic young woman. The only problem is I haven't published it yet.

I've been stuck writing one for a very long time. I seem to be making progress with the first act, though. I think that my biggest flaw is that I'm a rabid perfectionist. I wish I could just have fun writing something, and not make into an elaborate project.

You can write whatever you want on a novel, whether it is an historical fiction or an angsty young adult novel with important topics.

I tried, but no one seems to like my stories with my OC's, so I am reduced to writing fan-fiction. Here is one of my stories I have now.:

I had a few failed attempts years ago and got frustrated because everything kept turning out to be so autobiographical, despite my best efforts for it not to be. I decided I'd be better off just writing a memoir instead to get it out of my system.

I've tried many times, but have never succeeded. I blame a short attention span, low self-discipline, and maybe a paucity of confidence. I have finished a few short stories, but those depend on rare flashes of inspiration. Ironically it seems easier for me to generate novel ideas than ideas I can condense into short stories.

I've written a novel and published it via Amazon Kindle.

I've been working on character background stories. I just can't seem to write a novel without it sounding stupid.

Last time I looked at this thread there were only 2 replies, suddenly there are loads.

My first post was too vague. I have written a novel, but I'm not sure about it. I wrote it when I was much younger and it is a very angsty young person's perspective. I wrote it because I needed to. It was made up of ideas I needed to play with.

I wrote it so long ago that I saved it on a floppy disk. I have thought about publishing it online now that you can do that sort of thing. Maybe I'll read it over again.

My reason for wanting to write is not simply because I like reading. I enjoyed writing when I was younger and stopped for some reason. I was told that I was a good writer when I was younger and my English teacher expected me to become an author. He didn't say, here's a good idea for you, he said "this is what you are going to do." And that memory replays in my mind from time to time. It's the only thing that someone has said that they are sure I would do.

But I want to write something better than what I've written in the past. I should try again. I've been very lazy with all my hobbies lately and I don't know why. I used to write songs, but I haven't written one for at least a year and a half. I used to paint too, but haven't been doing that either.

Depression is rubbish.

I have written and published a book already and am working on my novel which goes to the editor in the Spring of next year.

I would recommend maintaining a blog if you are an author, forces the writing function and exposes you to criticism which is vital to proper writing.

What sort of writing do you enjoy? what have your attempts so far been about? I have always wanted to write a novella but fear has always stopped me. I hope you do follow through and write your masterpiece. there is a lot of support here. I will if you will, we could compare notes

I think that my mother is the only one that reads my blog.... :|

This isn't to say I want people to read my blog, but I do use it as a way to write outside of what I normally write.
