Just type in your favorite lyrics of your favorite song. Heck type in lyrics from several of your favorite songs.

Mine are: " Life it seems will fade away, drifting further every day
I am lost within myself, nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live, simply nothing more to give
There is nothing left for me, I need the end to set me free"

Fade To Black

Can't choose, is like 40-odd years of music you asking me to chose from 8O

So here's 5 of the best to me

--------------------------------------------------------------
Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I ret*d or am I just overjoyed?
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word and that's my best excuse

Green Day - Jesus Of Suburbia
-----------------------------------------------------------------
i have to learn, have to try, have to trust i have to cry
have to see, have to know that i can be myself, yeah

Krezip - I Would Stay
----------------------------------------------------------------
And the music make her wanna be the story
And the story was whatever was the song, what it was
Rollergirl don't worry
DJ play the movies all night long

Skateaway - Dire Straits
------------------------------------------------------------------
We got but one shot at life
Let's take it while we're still not afraid
Because life is so brief
And time is a thief, when you're undecided
And like a fistful of sand
It can slip right through your hands

Rod Stewart - Young Turks
--------------------------------------------------------------
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dyin'
Are the best I've ever had

Mad World - Tears For Fears
---------------------------------------------------------------

You do realize this thread will play though my head on and off now and I'll be like duhh, why did I not think of that one

My favourite Dylan lyric from the last 20 years is Pay In Blood. It riffs on Othello to paint the psyche of a white underclass wing-nut, and would-be assassin.

Here are some lyrics that I like that are not written by Dylan.

Donovan: Universal Soldier.
Fred Neil: Everybody's Talkin.
David Byrne: Cities.

The Cat Came Back

Now, just like everbody, you've got troubles of your own,
But let me tell you, mister, of the sorrow I have known.
I had an old, gray cat that I couldn't bear to keep.
He spent the nights a-howlin' and he wouldn't let me sleep.

So I put him in a box and I tied it up quite well.
I had some fellas help me and I paid them not to tell.
They put it in a boxcar, the westbound 710.
The train pulled away and was never seen again.

But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back and he wouldn't stay away.
Meow, kitty. Meow, so pretty.
Meow, such a pity, but the cat came back.

We took him to the harbor and we put him on a ship.
We bid him, "Bon voyage," for that oceanic trip.
The captain was obliging and glad to help us out.
They tied him to the anchor so that there could be no doubt.

Well, we heard the sad report of that mighty storm at sea
And, though it may sound heartless, I was happy as can be.
The paper said the ship went down beneath a heavy gale
And not a single soul was left to tell the awful tale.

But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back and he wouldn't stay away.
Meow, kitty. Meow, so pretty.
Meow, such a pity, but the cat came back.

Then we gave him to a scientist destined for the moon.
The cat was used for ballast in an outer space balloon.
I guess you know what happened, that balloon is up there still
And early that next morning, guess what came across the hill.

Meow, that's right.

Now, everyone in town was sworn to shoot that cat on sight.
With that crazy cat around, you couldn't sleep at night.
We even formed a posse just to hunt that critter down.
You could hear the guns a-blazin' as we ran him out of town.

But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back and he wouldn't stay away.
Meow, kitty. Meow, so pretty.
Meow, such a pity, but the cat came back.

Here's the moral to our story: When looking for a friend,
If you get an old, gray cat, he's yours until the end.
You'll never drag him off, no matter what you do.
Bear in mind this dreadful tale that we have told to you.

But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back and he wouldn't stay away.
Meow, kitty. Meow, so pretty.
Meow, such a pity, but the cat came back.

Huh. Krezip on Wrong Planet. Who'd have thunk it? Have you been keeping up with Jacqueline Govaert's recent work? Her new songs are kind of cool.

Well, here are some of my favourites:

'My Culture', by 1 Giant Leap

When I look back over the years
All the things that brought tears to my eyes
Papa said we have to be wise to live long lives
Now I recognize what my father said before he dies
Vocalize things I've left unsaid
Left my spirit unfed for too long
I'm coming home to my family where I can be strong
For you I plan to be within me
My ancestry giving me continuity
Would it be remiss to continue in this way
Would you rather I quit, come with that other s***
Making people hips sway
Lip service I pay but I'm nervous
I pray for all the mothers who get no sleep
Like a lifeline I write lines
For my compassion is deep
For the people who fashion me my soul to keep
And this is who I happen to be
And if I don't see that I'm strong than I won't be

'Manchild', by Neneh Cherry

Is it the pain of the drinking
Or the suddenly sinking feeling?
Your car never seems to work
When it's late your girlfriend's on a date
And the hero with her in your dream
When you sleep seems like you
Turn around, ask yourself
Manchild, will you ever win?
Manchild, look at the state you're in

SPLIT LEVEL HEAD-
I´ve lived in apartments, I´ve lived in a home
I travelled in trailers when I used to roam
But now in these places you won´t have me dead
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

I do what I want to, no worries, no care
If anyone bugs me I climb up my stairs
Way up to a level where I feel no threat
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

If you´re trying something, I couldn´t care less
I don´t rush for busses and trains are a mess
There´s no one to care for, I don´t need a bed
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

I like how I´m living, I´m nobody´s slave
My head´s above water, so don´t make a wave
There are no doors to lock and no dogs to be fed
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

Now why should I move when the neighborhood´s right?
No taxes to pay and no landlord to fight
Now I call this living, what´s more, like I said
´cause I'm happy I live in a split-level head

Now you keep your ulcers, your ills, and what, too
You sure couldn´t have them and live like I do
You think I have problems, but you do instead
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

I live with two people, I like both of them
He likes both of me and I like both of him
They´re my alter-ego and to them I´m wed
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

There´s no simple status in my neighborhood
And that kind of thinking, I think it´s so good
And I don´t take the lead when I like to be led
´Cause I´m happy I live in a split-level head

Checked some out but they didn't have the magic that does it for me. Saying that I thought I recognized her voice on Radio2 today but was busy in the kitchen and got side tracked before the end of the song but I liked it better than what I had found on You Tube.

It's Drunk Out Tonight
[Butterball Brown]

It's drunk out tonight, it's settlin' like the dew
and i have even noticed that the walls are plastered, too
the bartender's staggerin' - he's surely had his share
so let's have another round, we can't go home-
it's too dern drunk out there.
kelly was a drinkin' man, he'd drink from night 'til morn
you could always find him at a bar, soakin' up the corn
when closin' time would come around, they'd start to throw him out
he'd get a grip upon the bar and then he'd loudly shout
oh it's drunk out tonight, it's settlin' like the dew
and i have even noticed that the walls are plastered, too
the bartender's staggerin' - he's surely had his share
so let's have another round, we can't go home-
it's too dern drunk out there!
kelly's wife came a'huntin' him, with murder in her eye
she found him at his usual spot, soakin' up the rye
she got ol' kelly by the arm, and started for the door
he got a firm grip on the bar and shouted then once more,
oh it's drunk out tonight, it's settlin' like the dew
and i have even noticed that the walls are plastered, too
the bartender's staggerin'- he's surely had his share
so let's have another round, we can't go home
it's too dern drunk out there!
kelly went out on new year's eve, to spread a little cheer
he tried to drink up everything and ended up on beer
a cop come over to his automobile for just a little talk
says "are ya figurin' on a'drivin' home?
he says "sure, i'm too drunk to walk!"
oh it's drunk out tonight, it's settlin' like the dew
and i have even noticed that the walls are plastered, too
the bartender's staggerin'- he's surely had his share
so let's have another round, we can't go home
it's too dern drunk out there!

Snow in a soulless city covers up the cracks in the road
As a wastrel buys her cigarettes and wipes her pretty nose
Like a part-time Elvis imitator these streets I knew so well
Have been pasted beyond recognition with a temporary smell

Now the midnight train eases out leaving everyone marooned
And without her it might as well be the surface of the moon

From the well-swept streets of Jackson Heights to the dockside drudgery
Everything's now a replica of what it used to be
And since they tarted up the trenches and painted the bridges blue
It seems less like a home to me than just a place they bury you

Now we're lit up like a cathedral in our frozen concrete ruin
And without her it might as well be the surface of the moon

So I need her and I love her that is true
But I'm stuck here like some shipwreck still holding on to you
So when they beat out the tramps and patch up the slums
Everything will be fine
There'll be a new facade for us to hide behind

So on the ancient trails of our coupling in the places we used to meet
I am amazed by the lack of memories that I thought would flood through me
And the riverside where we first kissed has now been reduced
To a phony old world market where only shoppers get seduced

Now your arms embrace me strangely in your unfamiliar room
And for all I care it might as well be the surface of the moon

Surface of the Moon - Del Amitri

There are just so many good lines in this song. Just love Justin Currie's writing.

Robert Hunter -- Rum Runners.

Here is a taste of the great rum runners
Ships that sailed the velvet harbor
Crews that broke the jugs and poured your blood
Like flowing rum upon the sand

Sinking down, down, down
Upon the sand, upon the sea
Upon the hills of liquid green
They rise to fall, they rise again
Their dreams tattered sails in the wind

Here is a wail of a lone flute playing
Those not hanged, by time were slain
Here is a cup of blood and tears
Here is the wail of a hundred years

Going down, down, down
Upon the sand, upon the sea
Upon the hills of liquid green
They rise to fall, they rise again
Their dreams tattered sails in the wind

Overnight they turned to water
No blood rang when they went to slaughter
Tears were few, though sighs were heavy
Bones were stacked in the main library

Turning down, down, down
Till their dreams are touching ground
Rising up like gentle rain
They turn to rise and fall again

Running round and changing faces
Marking time and keeping paces
Ducking down awhile to die
Their faces melt to barren sky

After all the trial and fury
They spared the judge and hanged the jury
No one asked the reason why
Sentence passed they turned to die

Turning down, down, down
Till their dreams are touching ground
Rising up like gentle rain
They turn to rise and fall again
Their dreams tattered sails in the wind

Here is fire and bloody slaughter
Written on the leaves of water
Here is a ship with all hands singing
Here is a dock with dark men swinging

Down, down, down
Upon the sand, upon the sea
Upon the hills of liquid green
They rise to fall, they rise again
Their dreams tattered sails in the wind

Those lyrics to Rum Runners are really good. The structure and flow and the imagery are just perfect. But then I listened to the track and I'm not so keen on the flute in the background. This may be heresy to Robert Hunter fans but I think it read like an Iron Maiden song. I think they would do it justice.

This is my most favourite song ever

Desire Regained by The Bathers

I'll just post a couple of verses. I couldn't find these lyrics online so had to dig out my old vinyl and type this from the lyric sheet:

There's a fragrance in this room
Like something wafted up from an oleander scented pool
It carries the bliss of a half remembered kiss
and a vision of wild swans and
the jazz kittens at coole
Makes me recall thrusting through
a darkened dance hall
"I want you now if you want me at all"

Crushed by the crush
Rushed by the rush
Bound and tied
By your dark sweet eyes
How I dissolved
Revolved and evolved
I was deranged and derealised
You were cute but I was resolute

I tried to write a song based on this. It was about dancing with someone you have feelings for and how that moment is perfect. I'll post it if I can find it.

Nick Drake is one of my favorites and this is my favorite song if his, "Place to Be"

"When I was younger, younger than before
I never saw the truth hanging from the door
And now I'm older see it face to face
And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place.

And I was green, greener than the hill
Where the flowers grew and the sun shone still
Now I'm darker than the deepest sea
Just hand me down, give me a place to be.

And I was strong, strong in the sun
I thought I'd see when day is done
Now I'm weaker than the palest blue
Oh, so weak in this need for you."
