Last Metallica album I bought was the 'black' album (the one with no name :) Went to see them twice in '93. Preferred the music prior to that album TBH. Got more into Megadeth at that stage.

I kind of wish they would have done another album like ...And Justice For All, but judging by the fact that they found many of its songs simply too drawn out and exhausting to play in concert, I can see why they went in a simpler direction with their music. I don't think they were deliberately trying to be "radio friendly" with the Black Album, they were just sort of steered in that direction by Bob Rock, and coupled with the fact that they were tired of playing excruciatingly complicated songs, it ended up being their most commercially successful album at that point.

I am not a fan of Metallica, at least not yet. I don't dislike them, but I just kind of bypassed them when I was discovering heavy metal. I started with nu-metal, then Megadeth, then went straight into death and black metal. So I have a lot of stuff in the middle to catch up on. I just recently started to appreciate Black Sabbath and Dio; I'll get around to Metallica eventually. (The only full album of theirs I've heard, believe it or not, is Load. I found it to be mostly watered-down hard rock with a few good songs.)

FUNNY DEATH METAL LYRICS OF THE WEEK: 'DEMON'S WIND' BY VADER
Clammy frog descends
Demon's wind, the stars answer your desire
Join the undead, that's the place you'll never leave
You wanna die... but death cannot do us apart...

If you want to hear Metallica at the most "metal" point of their career, listen to their first four albums. Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All are all classic albums that you should listen to at least once. Metallica, also known as the "Black Album" is a great album too with some surprisingly heavy moments, though it may be a bit too commercial for your liking. I was reluctant to listen to it at first because I though every song on it was going to be radio-friendly like "Enter Sandman", but I was pleasantly surprised.

I used to have the album, Master of Puppets. From that album, I like:
1. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
2. Disposable Heroes
3. Damage, Inc.
I also like the songs, One, Until It Sleeps, and The Four Horsemen.

Those are my favorite songs from Master of Puppets as well, along with Orion. Off their other albums, I'm having trouble keeping it down to 10. XD
