Hello everyone,

I wrote a picture book called “The Girl Who Didn’t Know How To Be” where I tell the story about a girl who tries very hard to fit into society and her peer groups. She struggles to find a place in this world, but finally she rebels and creates her own rules. Basically it’s an allegory of an autistic person, but at the same time perfectly portrays anyone who feels different and struggles to fit in. As you all probably know in recent years awareness of autism has grown, unfortunately at the same time there is a growing belief that autistic people must conform to society's expectations and perfectly fit. So through this book I wanted to send a clear message that this is not the case and autistic people are not the problem, society that wants to make everyone behave the same way and trying to put everyone into its imaginary "normality" is the real problem.

I decided to go with self publishing as that way I can tell the story exactly the way I want and make all the decisions from design to print without any sacrifices (last time I talked with bigger publishers they wanted me to change some key messages as it might upset the parents who want their children "healed" : / ). That's why I created Kickstarter project.
But, without help and support this project can't be completed. If someone of you would like to support this project, that would be really great. I was working really hard on this book and hope it will be read appreciated by many others.
If some of you could share this campaign or tell others who might be interested, that would be great. And if any of you feel like donating, that would even more awesome.

More information can be found on the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/aiws/the-girl-who-didnt-know-how-to-be

Also, please watch the video that we were working on few months. For me as an artist, it's another piece of art work rather than promotional tool for the book.

Thank you very much!
P.S. if someone wants to comment on the illustrations or the video, would love to hear your feedback too.
