one of the best guitar solos in history was jimi hendixe's "axis bold as love".
it can be crudely approximated with reference to a keybooard backing track but can not be in the limelight as only stringed instrument can convey emotion.

This is awesome nonetheless. You still have plenty of emotion in your expression of the melody, even if it's different emotion than Jimi's. Don't sell yourself short there! Great work! I love Jimi's music, too, so I wouldn't screw around in saying that.

One thing - of many things - I'm presently missing is the technique and discipline of a musician. I love experimenting and improvising, you know? When it comes time to play music? I often fall flat on my you-know-what. I know a number of tunes that are works in progress right now, and often play them to varied results. When I'm "on"? I like my own playing, for what it is. When I'm "eh"? I like sections of it and dislike others. When I'm off? It's bad. I think this quirk or eccentricity that leads me towards jamming and improvising experimentally more than being able to play things that are really musical (for a lack of better terms) stems from my insomnia and my bipolar disorder. I am sort of burning out from worry and depression, on some levels, yet ultimately the music - listening and playing - just brings me peace of mind in the moments in which I do it.

Still, I just am getting into music over this past year and a half and I hope if I get my head straight and focus that I can continue to improve.

Anyway, excellent work!

I just did this experiment with a Snapple bottle as a slide, earlier:

I normally haven't played slide guitar. I just tuned to open D and decided to experiment, simply and sloppily. I didn't really know what I was doing here, and I'm also overtired at this present moment.

Nonetheless, I figured I'd share with the folks here, though I do plan to refine it once I'm rested and with more time.

Here is my last blues improvisation of the night that I figured I would share with the WP community, mistakes and all. This was again done while pretty much sleep deprived and a bit manic and anxious (hence, the weirdness of my ideas).

Again, I'm not a technical or gifted player. I've always had a more analytical and pragmatic mind, than musical or artistic, and have only been playing for 1.5 years or so, so please don't expect too much from any of my postings.

I am merely sharing them with this community, as I love the blues, and it is my cathartic release.

How long do I retain the status of "new user?" I can't post my music.

I did not see this thread when I initially posted.

I do not expect anybody to like this stuff.
It is free to listen, so who cares.
Have fun.

I thought people might enjoy "Other Worlds", a piano piece I've been composing this winter around the theme of autism:
https://soundcloud.com/sethnickell/sets/other-worlds

In this piece, each note on the piano is tuned in an unusual fashion, resulting in a different (but still highly consonant and in my opinion very beautiful!) emotional palette than your average tuningtypical (TT) piano.

It takes a little listening to get your ear used to it, but then, it takes a little listening to get used to the special tuning and beauty of the autistic soul.

In music we often think of chords as expressing different moods and emotions, but the typical tuning (called equal temperament) is a compromise allowing lots of instruments/notes to be played together. Its like fudging each note so we can make the big coordinated music that is the modern world. But what individual expression has been lost by this great compromise?

From a technical perspective: in this tuning, all the notes of the piano are natural (i.e. physics) harmonics of a very low fundamental frequency. As a result, playing one of the notes causes all the other strings to oscillate too, resulting in an unusual timbre and a sort of "shimmer" / tone-haze to the piano, as well as a long decay time. In addition the mathematical relationships between the notes results in natural (and, of course, unusual :-) rhythmic cycles coming from the interrelationships of the notes.

yeah i don't know much about contemporary ideas, and i am not qualified to judge your contribution, and i do not really understand it.
i have no real emotional depth, but i do like certain tunes from the 60's and 70's that i wish i was a backing track contributor to.

i also compose my own stuff, but it is just collections of musical ideas and not an emotional painting like the masters can paint.

anyway, the quality of written songs in the 1960's and 1970's far outstrips anything in today's repertoire.

this is brilliant song writing if you just break it down into it's sterile notes. like simple note structures.

like this one too is incredible in that it can evoke emotion, and i can copy the notes, but i can certainly not compose it.

i don't know what emotion is.

but here is what i consider to be kind of exciting.
imagine i could extend it into hours worth of variable symphonies, but none of the notes evoke emotion as i have been told. whatever. it's still loads of fun to think up stuff to play.

Due to procrastination and circumstances I've never been able to get good at music like I've always dreamed, but I did make these.

Some more stuff.

Keep in mind that I don't have good mixing skills/equipment.
Also here's me playing the paino. It's pretty wonky since I hadn't practiced in over a year and I never really learnt how to play with two hands anyway.

A recent track I've made:
https://soundcloud.com/shledge/a-meaning-of-new

I tend to make music mostly with hardware/modular synths, usually in the geekiest way possible. Here's one I'm currently working on - self generating music!
