I like everything, but nickelback.

But seriously I hate anything like nickelback, which is pretty much any “testosterone rock.” In terms of what I like I’m generally into female indie artists, a bit of experimental music and a bit of pop. Pretty generic stuff a lot of the time. This is what I listen to when I’m not obsessing about any particular genre. Things get more interesting when I obsess about genres. The genres I’ve obsessed about include Karelian folk music, Tuvan throat singing and at the moment Israeli rock.

Klaus Schulze. His albums from 70s.

The story 'What Makes a Happy Song? Chances are it has More Seventh Chords' might be of interest:

I'm always found the macho needledickery of Nickleback and their clones annoying, but ironically 'tough guy' stuff like Hatebreed, Earth Crisis, Throwdown etc seems to always catch my interest (and are far more 'macho' than Nickleback could imagine being). Besides sounding quite different, I wonder if there's something more about the way that attitude is expressed that makes post-grunge testosterone (or Pantera) make me cringe and makes 'tough guy hardcore' make me want to circle pit (even at the times it was a guilty pleasure).

Oh, I'm certainly compatible with the blues music. I also prefer rock, AOR, folk... In general, I can listen any kind of the good music! But blues and rock are genres what I like the most!

Other than the fact the musical styles are very different, I think the early metalcore bands tended to be a bit more intellectually sophisticated than other tough-guy music. I personally have little interest in either or any sort of testosterone rock, though I do like Adrenaline Mob and I found exaggerated masculinity to be amusing.

I especially enjoy Rock Alternative, especially stuff by They Might Be Giants, Devo, The Flaming Lips, Bare Nekkid Ladies, and R.E.M., just to name a few.
