My favorite prog rock bands are Genesis, Jethro Tull, and Yes.

Yes, King Crimson and Asia.

All three are inextricably interlinked. Several members of each band made appearences in one of the other.

Geoff Downes was in Yes and Asia
John Wetton was in Asia and King Crimson
Bill Bruford was in Yes and King Crimson
Steve Howe was in Yes and Asia
Tony Levin was in ABWH and King Crimson

I you have never heard of King Crimson Youtube "Starless" :D :D {similar to Yes : Starship Troopers :D }

Not to get semantical, but do metal and industrial bands count as "progressive rock"?

Well, I suppose in the broadest sense they do, so your response is cool. But honestly, only the first two seem like traditional progrock.
