Quite a controversial performance from August 1973, live on 'The Midnight Special'. Many people, including some diehard Bolan fans, absolutely hate this: the overblown, chaotic presentation, the 'screeching' backing singers (Gloria Jones and Pat Hall), Bolan's own physical decline (overweight and apparently going grey at age 25!), and so on. Many critics, especially Americans and modern observers, can't deal with the fact that live performances at the time were nothing like the polished studio versions of the songs.

I think this is a brilliant show, even if 'Get It On' ('Bang A Gong' in USA) goes on a bit too long. The guitarist in the dark blue top is Jack Green, who only spent a few weeks with the group on this tour, but has some interesting tales to tell. This was also one of the last appearances by drummer Bill Legend - the first member of the classic 1971-73 T Rex lineup to leave the band.
