So lately I've been wanting to start and play in my own band. However, everyone else sucks. The only drummer in this town has no idea what a time signature is, and the other guitarists all claim to love math-rock but they know absolutely no music theory whatsoever. SO, the only real solution is to "be the band" and record all my parts seperately and fuse them together into songs.

Does anyone know of a good recording/editing program that is:

-Easy to use
-Able to run at least 4 tracks at the same time
-Has a built in drum machine (this is critical so don't say Audacity)
-Is designed for solo artists doing this sort of thing, not for making techno or whatever.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me out here. I know there are a lot of solo musicians on WP who may use something like this. I want to create instrumental power metal/progressive metal which incorporates classical concepts and lots of advanced techniques. Everyone else in this town wants to whank around in a garage and play smells like teen spirit. Please help me out so I don't have to resort to jamming with those guys.

I've used Reason and Digital producer.

There's others out there like Fruity Loop sand others I can't remember the names of.

I used sound studio to mix most of my ambient creations when I had mac. Sony sound studio is the same thing practically except for pc. Oh and I think fruity loops has some kind of "sound pack" in case your interested, but I dont know for sure.

If you must record to a computer, Cubase is what you want if you have the cash for it.

Get VST studio and a drum machine to go with it plus whatever else you want. Audacity is still the go for ease of use and multitracking and it's free ! !!

If you're downloading it, you may run into the functionalty problems due to not have the USB Key/Dongle lock required to run the software.

Hey Reaper looks interesting - thanks for the tip. I'm familiar with all the well-known programs (Cubase, Sonar, etc) but never heard of that one. I think I'll give it a try.

Id suggest protools but its expensive but you wont get anything better for digital recording purposes. I to decided to do my own thing after not be able to find musicians that i can work with. I get good quality recordings by recording everything myself to its such a great release.

www.myspace.com/paulsrevenge <--- you can check it out there
