Does anyone else here play drums to get out there aggression?

If so, what kind of drum set you have, etc?

Just curious.

No, but my neighbor does, and it makes me feel aggressive; towards him! :x

Yes. Have an ngoma for hand drumming, and play marimba when I need to work through thoughts in my head.

Maybe your neighbor should take lessons! Or get a soundproof room.

I have my set in the basement, it's not uncommon for my mom to go to the other end of the house where it's not so loud. During the summer my neighbors say they can hear me when the windows are open here and they are outside. I'm an absolute fanatic when it comes to my set. It's my good friend..beaten to a pulp but still waits for me good friend.

Never tried hand drumming...except for tapping on a table and such.

I don't, but I would like to try (just for fun, so I could say I did).

I play the drums. Not genearally to get out aggression, though. More for the music. Got a Pearl Export set. With crappy old cymbals I should probably replace. Not because they're broken - they're in good condition - but because I don't like how they sound. And because I use a hi-hat cymbal for a crash. But I'm not made of money, so I'll just have to live with it.

I have a Pearl Export kit & a very nice Pearl jazz kit (with maple shells) - but haven't played either since I moved into my apartment in 1992. Before that, I absolutely used my drumming as an outlet for built-up stress.

What kind of marimba do you have? I have a 1981 Deagan Bandmaster (4 1/3 octaves) that I manage to play for about a half-hour a day. It doesn't so much relieve aggression, as it allows me to clear my head & create some pleasant sounds after a stressful day.

I also have a Pearl Export kit that's older than I am. (21) Couple original Zildijian's, couple new ones. I've very rough on it, so i'm glad it'd held up this long

I use those at the schools I help out with - either a 4-1/3 Musser (which is the very exact instrument I played on when I was in high school) or 4.6 octave Adams synthetic. I try to get a couple hours in whenever I'm down, working on keeping my Stevens grip in practice while trying to learn a six-mallet technique as well. I also own two MalletKats (midi marimbas) that allow me to experiment more. Do you have any solos or selections you are working on? I tend to play 'Rhythm Song' when I need to clear my head.

I used to have about 40 minutes of marimba music prepared. Now I'm lucky if I can get through four fairly short pieces. Currently, the music I have under my hands includes a Bach two-part invention (a-minor), Musser Etude in C Major (Op. 6 No. 10), Marie (a short ragtime piece) by Geary Larrick, and - my longest piece - Grand Fantasy in C Major, by Raymond Helble.

I also play Stevens method - I was lucky enough to take his summer study program in 1982, just after I graduated college. Are you working on any specific pieces for six mallets? I tried it briefly when I was in college, but it wasn't for me.

I don't have any specific pieces for six mallet performance; I'm trying to work out the nuances of the mechanics and limitations for compositional purposes. If you're interested, send me your email address in a PM and I will send you a MIDI of a marimba duet that I wrote a year or so ago - would welcome the feedback. I want to learn Earl Hatch's arrangement of 'Jalousie' next... but that's one mean piece of music.

I don't really play for aggression, more just for fun, but I have a Sonor kit. I think it's from the Force series, it's some sort of special edition and it has one rack tom and two floor toms and a slightly longer than average bass drum and it's shiny silver. I just got it a few weeks ago actually.

I've seen that alot these days. I just have issues with tuning floor toms so i tend to stay away from them.

Shiny is always good.

I play the drums, but more for fun and music. I use the set that's upstairs in the music room of my clubhouse. I play them for the joy of music. 8)

I had a Ludwig Accent (one step above 'rank beginner') to which I added Zildjian cymbals, a Latin Percussion bongo set and stand (as a set of toms), and a few musical things like cowbells, etc.

Had a 2nd set - D4 drum module, Octapad, and a few other pads on various snare stands...;)

Used to have a blast (when I owned my own home) trying to keep up with Neal Pert, Phil Collins, etc., laughing like a loon.

No, but this is something i've been begging my parents to do since I was a kid. LOL. I've always felt a strong connection to drums, just never given the opportunity to play them. Closest i've gotten is guitar hero ;)
