My choices are:

A Wrinkle in Time (that crappy, made-for-TV movie from 2003 doesn't count).
The Giver
Locked in Time
The Mysterious Benedict Society
Warrior Cats
The "Wheel of Time" series

It's not exactly a book, but I think the lethal hauntings at 50 Berkeley Square in London deserve their own movie.

I always thought "Glue" by Irvine Welsh is his best book and would make a great film or better still a four part tv series.

Yamato: A Rage in Heaven.

That is, it should have been made into a movie with a laughable budget in the 1980s so it could have been heckled on MST3k by Joel/Mike and the bots.

Very few of the best books can be made into movies. Dune is a perfect example of this. This is why there's still a market for books—more than 120 years after the first moving pictures.

(And yes, I'm well aware of LotR, but a lot of changes were made for it to translate well into a movie.)

Dunno about a movie, but a TV series based on Transmetropolitan would be excellent.

A lot of the denser, more lengthy books would be better as TV series or miniseries. Game of Thrones and the Sci-Fi Channel version of Dune and the first two sequels are a case in point.

I'd also like to see a version of Solaris done like Stanislaw Lem would have wanted, ie, with an emphasis on the ridiculous nature of anthropocentrism rather than the 'terrible love story'.

Oh, here we go. Here's some books or book series that I'd want to see done either as movies or as miniseries (I'll mark them down as 'M' for movie, or 'TV' for a series or miniseries):

The Artemis Fowl books (M)

The Vorkosigan Saga (TV)

Wild Cards (TV)

The Count of Monte Cristo (TV) (Yes, I know that there's a French language miniseries, but I'm talking an English language version that does justice to the original novel)

The Dark Tower (TV)

Monster (TV)

The Rifters trilogy (TV)

Neuromancer (M)
