classical music recommendations

I never used to like any music that didn't have lyrics, but lately I have been getting into it. Sort of.

Recommendations so far: Bach (guess who I got that one from) and Philip Glass (I really like him).

Well the link that you posted isn't exactly what I would call classical music, so I can't exactly recommend much based off of it. I actually have no idea what kind of music that was lol.


I would recommend checking out this link: http://www.talkclassical.com/17996-comp ... ended.html
and listening to the top 10 selections in each category. That will give you a good idea of some of the more popular works out there. Then, you can branch out from there as you start to learn what styles and composers you like the most.

Since you like Bach, you can look into various other Baroque era composers. I'm quite partial to Handel/Monteverdi for vocal music and Vivaldi for instrumentals.

I'm a Beethoven freak, so anything by him is golden to me. I especially love his piano sonatas and symphonies.

The vast majority of them are classical music.

The Squid would like to recommend modern composers Joe Hisaishi, Jeremy Soule and Austin Wintory. These three guys are cooler then turnips! And, they all still produce music. The squid is saddened that Brahms, Beethoven, Ravel and the like are dead.

Wow, I've been listening to as many of these as I can. I feel like I found another sense I didn't know I had. It's overwhelming in the best way!

How did I not know about this before?

Why do people always dress in black when they play classical music?

The Squid does not specifically enjoy Brahms on the whole, but is partial to Op.39 Waltz in A minor we thinks? The Squid enjoys any waltzes, and they aren't Brahms strong suit. Squid also enjoys music with more energy. Hungarian dances are okay for this, but not as expressive as others.

I have the recordings of Brahms symphonies which were recorded in the early 50's. It was with Bruno Walter conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. Surprisingly, the recordings were in stereo. The only problems I had with them were the hiss from the tape and the overall brightness. In any case, I remastered the recordings and now they are among my favourite recordings in my inventory.
