Currently the local pop station in my city has a drive time (afternoon) host who is big into hip hop, so that's what he plays for the "dance mix". The previous host got canned, but he was more eclectic, playing lots of EDM. I always found Avicii's songs to be rather strange, basically a mix of EDM and country music, you could call it country flavored electro. I find lots of modern hip hop to be really vulgar and the censors bleep out half the song. It used to be that hip hop got its message across without all the swearing and sexism. There were sexist posses like 2 Live Crew, yeah, but even they didn't swear and have all the scatology. Today, you have songs called I Don't f**k With You and Pop That p**** and so on, and so much is bleeped that it's hard to understand what the artist is saying. And the songs aren't that great anyway. Even EDM can get pretty bad, look up #Selfie (yes, that's the name) by Chainsmokers. There's a satellite muzak channel that plays 80s pop for use in grocery stores and such, and hearing that makes me realize how far American culture has fallen.

The autotuned vocals and my sound sensitivities clash.
But the Bee Gees falsetto disco era vocals were even worse.

A small minority.

Mainly popular Electronic Dance mUisc (EDM), and pop music that is influenced by Disco or Fun (Daft punk, Uptown Funk, etc.)

Most of almost everything else is quite bad, though.

No. I mostly listen to extreme metal.
Few of the radio stations around here even play hard rock.

The pop music on the radio, does a terrible, terrible job of representing today's music...So much good stuff out there yet it doesn't get on the radio for some strange reason.

If you mean that played by stations which focus on now and the past few years then the answer is no. I will hear good things on stations that devote time to older music. Chicago actually has a new station that plays 60's-80's and has pleased me in many ways. They play things you do not normally hear and it is not the same 40 or so songs over and over.

WCBS-FM in New York is pretty much the same songs over and over again. And after erasing the 50's altogether they are doing the same to the 60's with the exception of The Beatles and The Monkees. Even a lot of the internet radio stations which is the home of the specialty and obscure are tightening playlists.

It varies. Most of it is generic and homogenized, but I'll find a diamond in the rough ever so often. And there's a handful of stars I like, such as Ariana Grande, Carly Rae Jepsen and Bruno Mars.

No I do not.... Its not made for the sake of art but for profit. Not to mention that Jaron Lanier once wrote in his book "You Are Not A Gadget" something along the lines of "If you were to take a person that has never heard Western music before and play them something from the 60's, then the 70's, then the 80's, etc etc they would probably be able to tell the difference. But if you play them a pop song from 2000 and one from 2015? Probably not". Nothing has changed in pop music. It all follows the same basic formula and people just throw their money away on it. Its sad, really... No one is willing to take a chance on anything that is different. The fact that any swingin' dick with a computer can make music these days isn't helping anything either. Most "artists" these days use prefabbed melodies and throw Auto-tune on their vocal tracks and call it a day.

But I digress........

Needless to say: I HATE pop music.

Certain songs are tolerable, but for the most part, I don't.
