...these actually came with a subwoofer. Previously, I'd been listening to music through headphones and through a set of low-priced computer speakers.

The moment I plugged these in and put on some tunes, my thought was WOW! The music sounds so much better. While there was some definite improvement in the treble, the most dramatic effect was in the bass. With the subwoofer on the floor, I can literally feel the music with my feet. The experience is just so much more, IDK, immersive.

Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Definitely. I tend not to tweak the bass or treble myself, but I do usually listen to music on a stereo. Sound is meant to create the illusion of space, so proper speaker setup helps you enter the music. Anything else just feels flat. That's cool you've discovered this .

i have for decades now been a big fan of high-fidelity stereophonic surround audio.

pc sound is annoying, specially with music, and a headphone only goes for a while, for me anyway,
i have an old stereo-amp bloc with speakers attached to pc,
a 80/90s compact stereo system thing, all the different units glued together in one block

that relates, back in time, i diy with my dad these big speakers, sometimes when playing music i laid on the ground between them for the vibration experience.

i have a subwoofer that shakes my tin can on the organ pedal notes.

Bass is great, but not necessary to get immersive.


Apartment dwellers can play way louder by keeping the bass down.

I think quality standmounts are a great balance for the shared wall crew

Or bass shy towers, but the average quality tower is way too much bass for thin walled living

tin can is yank slang for mobile home or camper.

I live in a house in the middle of nowhere. Nobody cares how loud I play the music.

that is the best way to be as long as you have reliable transportation.

For headphones I ended up buying Audio-Technica ATH-R70x's a year ago and tested Djinn's Samurai Music mix from that fall (2020) and ASC's The Outer Limits. Great headphones to me though are like great sunglasses, ie. they're worth a few hundred dollars if you plan on keeping them for a decade or longer - and these are quite durable.

for monitoring my computer audio restoration i use an old pair of sennheiser HD580 precision cans. i have not found any other headphones that are as neutral and transparent.

Are these speakers USB-powered (connection and power with one USB cord), or do they connect to the computer with an audio jack and include an adapter to plug into the wall outlet for power?

i can't tell if you're referring to my post or not, but just in case you are, they are reference monitor headphones used in professional audio work. they plug into a USB-powered digital audio "breakout box" made by Monoprice.

I was asking the OP about the nice PC speakers.

But I'll ask you:
*What is a USB-powered digital audio "breakout box" ?
*The headphones go into this box, and the box then connects to the PC with a USB?
*Does the box require a power source, or is it USB powered?
*When the headphones connect to the box, is it a USB connection, or audio jack? If it's an audio jack, then, in theory, could any headphones connect to the box? 3.5mm or 1/4 inch?
